why are vehicle speeds so pathetic?
I thought the minibike would be better since it requires expensive gas to work and took FOREVER to build solo but I feel like it goes just as slow as the bicycle did.
In fact it feels even WORSE riding than the bicycle considering how slow it works and how much effort it takes.
I don't remember it being so painfully slow in previous builds, as it used to be well worth the expense and actually made exploration EASIER instead of barely making any difference between just trying to get to a place on foot.
I'm so ticked i'm almost considering dropping this game for good for another ten years, it just seems like a time sink with no actual depth playing solo.

Motorcycle and 4x4 are the worst. 4x4 hits a stick and bounces around like a beach ball, and the motorcycle drives like it’s on ice.
Main benefit of the minibike is that it doesn't consume stamina. It's not very useful if you're only traveling from POI to POI, but as soon as you need to cover more distance, I think the benefit is tangible.

Motorcycle is really a jump forward in speed. For me it's the last vehicle that I feel I really "need" in a playthrough (no problems with the handling for me). Especially with the ridiculous sensitivity and noise of the 4x4. Gyrocopter is fun but comes way too late in the game for my tastes.

By the time I got the minibike and gas I can run faster than it can go.

Meh, could care less about how fast they go.

It's still better than running halfway across the map plus they have storage space so I can have extended loot runs.

Get a mod to increase the speed if it is really that big of an issue.

The minibike feels pretty (decent at least) good with the supercharger mod but it's definitely not very fast otherwise. Not likely to find that mod though. Heh

It is mostly just a storage space increase from the bicycle.

I mod my backpack bigger, so I like the magical 20% faster run boots vs. vehicles. :P

I do like the motorcycle a bit and once I can make one, will carry it around. But I almost never use it even for just traveling. *shrug*

The minibike is an incremental upgrade from the bicycle. It's a little faster, doesn't use stamina, has larger cargo space, and can add vehicle mods.

That said, I usually skip it and go straight to the motorcycle.

Craft the Supercharger mod and watch the scenery fly by.

I just tested the 20% boots with steroids and the energy drink that gives the 50% speed boost and it is blazingly fast.

I just ran 1.4 km to a POI and it was pretty quick. Haha

The main reason I still like on-foot is because I'm a container-opening fool and (in any game) I can't stand constantly having to get on/off a vehicle every 10 seconds when I want to loot trash bags, nests, cars. I've always been that way in any game. Edit: also, in this game, I don't like to bother making/keeping up with fuel either.

That said on long journeys across an area where I've already recently explored so there's nothing much to loot/scavenge/open, I may "get on the bike and ride."

And yeah, 20% boots with the ... megacrush I think it is? ... is pretty insane.

Without mods a minibike is essentially a bicycle that uses gas. The bicycle has a speed of 8.5m/s, the minibike (with no mods) is 9.2m/s. The supercharger will add 18% I think so it ends up being around 25% faster than the bicycle.

Both the motorcycle and the 4x4 have a speed of 14m/sec, and the gyrocopter is 15m/sec.

That said, it is really easy to change the speeds. Just be careful, because I speak from experience when I say a motorcycle with a speed of 40 instead of 14 will crash into everything.

You really have to mod all vehicle speeds x2 for any of them to be useful or worthiwhile. Plus there are far too many collision problems on the crummiest of terrains. It;s all too late game to be enjoyable unless you are on the very largest of maps that have super dense towns and cities. I Just treat it like any Bethesda game and Run everywhere super fast. If you have a looting problem, yeah bike and 4x4 are the drug you need. But at the end of the day I mod all of them to twice speed so the game isn't dumb.
ChumSickle Aug 5, 2024 @ 1:20pm
Yeah, the speeds always kinda bugged me a bit...but then I realized I built the thing out of duct tape and rusted spare parts.
RasaNova Aug 5, 2024 @ 1:24pm
I think the minibike should be changed to a dirt bike, with better off-road handling than the motorcycle or 4x4. Keep everything else the same, but change the model. (or, add it as a 2nd entry in the "iron" vehicle tier after minibike.)

Of course I'm not sure what "better offroad handling" would mean, because as far as I know the game treats grass, snow, rubble, and pavement the same...

Because the vehicles just now was fixed (MAYBE not sure) so they dont hit nothing and go flying or stop like they hit a wall.. If they go fast i bet it would happen more often. Also really these vehicles are insanely bad.. some of the worst in a game ive ever seen... there is many other things to complain about them aswell besides speed. Slow is the lest of their problems is what im trying to say. Its cause the devs said there would be vehicles not good ones..
