But everyone has a different approach to the game.
The early game loot is definitely not all that exciting i agree, especially if you stay in the pine forest, but later on, both loot and quest rewards get better.
It's all about the perks you invest in, your various bonus and the "lootstage".
Later on, clearing POI missions are fun with melee weapons on very high difficulty settings, for the challenge of seeing if I can avoid taking too much damage and how fast I can do it. And I ignore most of the lootable stuff. I don't do tier 5,6 missions because I need some food or water.
all you really need to be self sufficient is a potato farm and a water filter mod for your helmet, or dew collectors. surviving in 1.0 is easier if you know what you're doing, but early game do be a grind.
anyways, looting usually goes like this: you pick up a clearing quest at the trader, go there with your friends, adn then one dude goes first, killing every zombie while getting occasional fire support from friends, while the friends loot everything that is not nailed down, and then you make sure that the loot is divided up equally for transport.
since every house is designed as a linear dungeon, looting like that is fairly straightforward, and you usually get tons of stuff which will become materials for your base and gear, or you just store it for later.
storing stuff is also made easier since they improved how storage boxes work. you can now write on them by default, for example, or upgrade them with iron ingots.
and honestly, there is nothing else to do in this game besides to just keep looting the places you get a quest for.
I agree, i didn't get to the "very late" game where you won't get anything better than what you already have in loot but i can understand the problem. And yeah i guess there some credit to give to early loot, it can sometimes decide where your character and base will be going in the first couple weeks.
im at day 24 atm wtih looting perks and mabye once or twice in the game i found something that i was excited to find.. once you have a certain mod u dont need 10, u can just use it forever, same with armour and weapons. i made a t1 iron spear, then a t1 steel then a t6 steel, and thats it for the weapons i used(ant they are all butt ugly, no satisfact of having a legendary spear).. same with other gear, u just make one and forget about it until u can make the best one and its just the same as what u had, except slightly bigger numbers..
For me it's the exploration and atmosphere why i "loot" POIs and i try to get most out of every single POI available. Not for the loot but for the general experience. The loot is just a bonus.
I like loot hunt games tho - Diablo's, Borderlands, etc. It's not just about how uber/awesome the loot you find always is. It's also about wanting to keep going further out, and since I'm doing that, I just open/salvage everything in sight that I come across. :D
So yes .. yes it is.
The amount of junk i carry and hoard in games like this under the notion "i might need it later / i can probably sell this"
you can mine just about anything else, except for brass, and you can farm food at the base. no need to find a good weapon when you can simply craft one.
and you need 100 magazines to max out a crafting skill, too, so it takes a while to get everything, and excess magazines can be sold to the trader or scrapped
Why? going for example at day 1 a 4 skulls POI and looting a nice pipe machinegun with some bullets is handsome (like one time i did), no more arrows wasted for a few days into hunting fleeing rabbits.
I also don't like when gamnes make looting 'obsessive' like you'll experience in games like Fallout, were you find the same items over ander over again, turning you into a hoarder.
so i became a bit picky, which makes like much easier.
as for 7D2D it's ok. Some loot is pretty nice, and you get some valuable items pretty soon.
Later in the game its fun in that on some quests, I am searching for particular things like brass or pipes or whatever so it can be fun to set a goal to look for particular stuff.
I dont do T5 or 6 quests like others have said, POIs too big, use too much ammo and loot/rewards not worth it to me.
