Infected day 1: Am I dead?
Basically the title. Was fighting a half zombie that was crawling, missed a few hits then got the notif saying I was infected. I am still at 1% infection and just made it to the trader. It's my first time playing in years and I have no idea of what I am doing. Pretty much just following the tasks.

I don't know if I am going to make it. What are the chances I'll come across antibiotics before infection reaches 100%?

Do keep in mind that until level 6, death has basically no penalty. So if you just die before then, the infection will go away. Not that you want to die in the game, but it does solve the problem consequence free that early on. Being new, a deathless run isn't realistic to try for so its not a bad option. No need to fully start over.

Oooh, okay. I was under the impression death was permanent. Thanks, I guess I'll keep playing one of these days. Reason I was resistant to keep on playing is I don't have much free time.
If you check the settings when creating a new world, you can change the death parameters. By default it's set to lost XP only on death, but you can change it to nothing, Injured (keep some debuffs and don't spawn with max hunger and thirst), or permanent death, where you lose everything, items and all perks and XP.

honey will cure infections and drops from tree stumps (20% chance to drop iirc), so just get a stone axe and go grind tree stumps until you get one.

Heading to the trader is another option if you have enough things to sell or enough cash on hand. They may have some antibiotic meds or honey for sale.

I have died from infection a few times early game now because I have ravaged the lands for tree stumps and not a single one out of the maybe 30 or so I've chopped have had honey in it. I'm starting to believe everyone is lying to me telling me there's honey in these things! (not complaining, just find it funny, slowly dying from infection however really sucks)

just chop tree stumps in the forest biome. They are very common and have a 20% chance to drop honey which cures 5% infection. I would suggest to keep going after you find 1, so as to have at least one or two spare honeys for the next time you get infected.

Also try staying mobile during melee. Strike, step back, strike, step back...no infections. Do not stand and trade blows.

I've never died from an infection in 10 years of playing. They are not that bad:)

I actually have no idea what happens when it reaches 100% 🤔

Just RNG for you. I've gotten 3 in a row, I've gotten 1 in 30 before. Its just random.

Honey does definitely help though. Better to collect it before you need it. I recommend collecting eggs from birds nests and as many red/yellow flowers and cotton as you can. They're good for making tea drinks and cloth, but they're also great ways to make early game cash. I forget the base rates, but its something like 100 pieces sells for like 300 or so. This helps you buy some starter foods or an important skillbook or two like Forge Ahead for making your first dew collectors and the like. Great thing to do while getting honey.

If you don't have luck with stumps. Rekt sells honey for fairly cheap.

If you're lucky. Depending on what he rolls for his inventory I've seen him not have any available in the first days sometimes. Usually does, but not always.

He very often does. At least 2 so chances are good and since Rekt is first trader in progression then it's worth checking.

He always had honey available for me even at day 1. Only times he didn't was when i bought it out and had to wait for restock day.

This is my first time playing the game and I was hoping the trader would have something for the infection but nope. I just checked again. No honey or antibiotics. Guess I'll spend time axing trees and pray honey drops.

I believe there is a challenge tied to harvesting honey from tree stumps. It is rare but possible to get
Duneman Jul 30, 2024 @ 1:06pm
If you haven't found them from stumps yet, go to your Challenges page and the challenge in the lower left corner is for Honey. Track the challenge and you'll get icons popping up on the screen from 30 meters or so whenever you near a stump.

Also, look for stumps inside of PoIs. They don't satisfy the challenge, but have a 20% chance to drop honey, instead of the 5% on wild stumps.

Thanks, I'll look into the challenge and into PoI trees because I was just axing trees out in the wild.
