Anyone miss the little wooden storage chests
I'm probably weird but I miss them. Not because of any storage space reasons tho. I miss that you could repair (or paint) blocks behind them, since they weren't full-block sized. And yet, I can still see the barest hint of block-type color behind the new crates edge - but can't paint that side. >.>

The iron/steel upgrading of the crates is nice and all, don't get me wrong, but one reason I used to not use those large storage crates in the past was because of that. I guess I can always cheat in leather-chests again.

And no, this isn't a big deal. But ... I still miss the half-size chests for tiny reasons like that. :steammocking:

Better functionality is always better. Simple and convenient is all an inventory system really needs. Beyond that is gravy. The new system gives us that. Biggest improvement I could see put in is remote access for crafting. Rather than putting back the obsolete chest, TFP could have the new chests to have shape changing functions like blocks, furniture, and appliances. That would be a better alternative.

The chests are the same size as the writable chests, most players would move on to anyway, which are much easier to organize with. Repairs would not be needed if the stash is in a well protected place. You shouldn't really need to paint behind the chests either. Not like you can really see behind them. Otherwise, I'd refrain from upgrading chests until I had the place settled. It's cheap to replace a wood box (iron is not that bad either, but less convenient to destroy).

The old system wasn't complex, and didn't need to be changed. it had some variety which was nice. We don't always want "block shaped storage" for everything. No sense in them adding shape changing functions and overhauling the whole system when we already had the shape we wanted and the old system worked just fine. It's just another TFP overhaul that didn't need to happen. It's what they do best.

Anyway, "better functionality" is not always better because that's not the only metric we're looking at. When "better functionality" comes at a cost that doesn't outweigh it's benefits, or when it is not a necessary change then it's easily argued that it isn't "better."

The whole game is worse these days because of all the dumbing down, they keep removing things and it's often been 100% unnecessary just like this, just like the armour overhaul, just like the stats/perks overhaul, just like removing jars, just like removing LBD... all unnecessary, all done for the wrong reasons, all replaced with inferior systems...

Well, I was able to create a recipe for the leather trunk, so it costs 10 leather to craft one vs. me pulling them out of creative menu. Maybe I should make it cost 20 leather....

Not smart enough to figure out anything else, if one could even do anything else. At least it gives me a half block size storage option.

Whaattt? They removed them?? Why??

Came back to the game after a year and couldnt find these perfect boxes i attched easily to my wall, which was a great space saver.

Well, google/dteam doesnt gave me the exected result. Man, that +×+×....:-(

Edit: obviously i can attach the other boxes also tl the wall, but, well, thats not a beauty.

game being "released" at 1.0 is a joke, A20/A21 is pretty much where the game was at its peak in terms of stability and gameplay.
Should've just released at A20/A21 and stopped touching/removing ♥♥♥♥.

I miss them as well. They were handy as a quick fix to slam down a temporary storage chest. Sometimes all you need is quick and dirty.

Yeah, the whole reason I played the game was for the storage chests of yore. New chest can be modified to hold more. they can be placed on a wall, and stacked.

New chests vs old chests, is at best a tie, and even first level can be labeled.

I miss the older chests as much as I miss my first grade teacher,,, what was her name?

those small chests could be placed on a wall too y'know.
At any rate, no one is saying the current chests should be removed. Perhaps we just don't understand why the smaller ones were removed. I mean they existed alongside the original writable storage boxes for many Alpha's - you didn't *have* to use them back then, and if they still existed, you wouldn't *have* to use them now - so why remove them now.

Oh yeah, the ever constant redundancy reduction/removing gameplay/style options. I suppose it saves a microbit of UI/menu performance or something of that nature. :steamfacepalm:

Something about the devs thinking that players aren't using something == Unfair to the artists who implemented it? == Force all players to use the other thing.

I didn't suggest that. I was commenting on a problem that isn't a problem.

Yes, I miss them. No, it's not weird.

They keep removing things that don't need to be removed. There was no good reason to remove those chests. It didn't need to be changed. This may be a small change, but it's a big deal - it's just another symptom of the TFP over-simplification and dumbing down virus that's slowly killing off what this game used to be, preventing it from becoming what it should have been...
you mean when they reduced clothing to like 4 things, lol
I miss a lot of things from previous builds. Most of all, jars and cans.

OP, I don't miss the wooden chests, but I appreciate why some players may.

On a wider note, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

However, does every thread have to get derailed into the A16.4 best alpha and TFP are useless echo chamber?

Out of curiosity what other types of container storage can you craft?
