Get dukes (quests/looting/selling stuff to trader) and buy it in vending machines at traders.
Find a cooking pot in a house, restaurant, foodstand or also buy one at the trader.
Avoid fighting as much as possible, this drains stats quickly.
While youre out looting for things to sell, check every mailbox, trashpile, dumpster...everything for mags. Before you know it you can make goldenrod tea (only need 5 cooking mags I think) so pick all the yellow flowers you can while walking around.
Need a campfire and a cooking pot to boil those murky water bottles (as previously said, can be found, bought or crafted).
Finally, perks like Advanced engineering never unlock any crafting, one or more perks into them will just increase your chances to find the related magazines you need to learn to craft.
I'm playing on the hand crafted map in a town near the starter spawn and i checked all the houses here and didn't find a cooking pot.
I have discovered i can take vitamins and just down murky water without dysentery being a risk though, and there are plenty of medical cupboards and piles that tend to have some, that will keep me going until i get a cooking pot.
Still seems odd to have such a core resource be locked behind a rare spawn and kinda late in tech trees to craft yourself.
Combined with using vitamins and the water tower near where i setup base this solves the issue of water.
I don't really like the idea of having perpetual dysentery lol, i guess only needing to eat and drink more isn't the end of the world but meh, i would rather avoid it.
One word: Toilets! :)
