1. Lots of complaints about the throwing of the spears. Popular vote was to have a power attack instead.
2. Issues with the retrieval system for thrown spears essentially breaking PvP mechanics.
I would also ask, "Why would you make such an obnoxious post?" You can get your point across without cursing.
That sounds pointless to even attempt to implement.
Yep. Throwing knives for stealth/agility and throwing axes for strength would be sick.
But, yeah, why not both.
Because it was inconsistent, both with reality (weapons designed for melee were very rarely thrown) and with the gameworld (with all other melee weapons, the alternative attack was a power attack).
Because it was inconvenient, often resulting in players throwing away their primary melee weapon during a fight.
Because the change made spears a viable weapon rather than a novelty.
A good case could be made for adding throwing spears (and other throwing weapons) but having the alternatives for melee weapons being normal attack and throwing your melee weapon away isn't an improvement. It wouldn't be an improvement even if you proposed it in a reasonable way. Which you chose not to do.
A simple solution that would satisfy everyone, but that's now how TFP or the community thinks.
All melee weapons are throwable. You can throw a club, just as you can throw a melee spear. Or a sword or whatever. It's very rarely a good idea to throw a melee weapon, but it's possible (and it was done occasionally).
I like your idea of using a radial menu to change attack type in the same way that a radial menu is used to change ammo type. Internally consistent controls using an existing system.
I never used spears in the past because I kept trying to power attack and accidentally tossing it making it very frustrating to use. Now I have been using the spear as my main wepon and loving it.
