Q: Can this game be beat?
If so, how?

Technically, no, but most people have a win condition they set for themselves before they start a new game.

If not for T6 quests, my win condition would be that my character has become self-sustainable in terms of food and water. At that point, I consider them to have survived the apocalypse.

But because Questing is a thing in this game, I consider doing a few T6 quests as a way to call it quits and start a new game.

Anyway, as you can probably tell, the late/end game is pretty boring and lacking.

This could change when the story gets implemented. That could introduce some thing that could be considered an end

imagine some event where you find the source of the blood moons, and can overload the machine or whatever is causing it, which will permanently end the blood moons and stop the zombie plague. but triggers one last, full day long blood moon.

so you'll need enough supplies to last a 24 hour long constant horde blood moon, if you die you get a 'bad' end where you save the world but died, and surviving gets the good ending where you save the world and then move on to help the traders rebuild it using your skills you gain throughout the game.

How does one "beat" a sandbox? Have you ever played in one?

As for now No.
There is no Ending to the Game right now. The Game just Continues Forever.

Wether there might be an End Implemented at some Point nobody but the Devs Know.

Look at the title of the game. Clearly you've won if you manage to die within 7 days. :wrynhappy:

I, personally, imagine (/hope) that they do it *somewhat similar* to MC in that there's a "Boss" to fight at the "End", but you can keep on playing if you wish to do so.

Depending on how they do the "Story"- mode, of course. If that ever comes into existence.

Wasn't there a story mode years ago? I never played it, as I've always done sandbox styled. I was kind of curious though.

Once you survive your first day 7 youve exhausted the entirety of the game's contents. So long as you've done at least a single mission from the trader, and so long as youve got a bicycle, youve experienced everything the game has to offer.

The POIs you found in the first 7 days are everywhere and not tied to biomes. The day 7 experience is the same night over night w/ increasing difficulty. The magazines you find in mailboxes, you'll be doing that for the next 35 days.

After 7 days just restart or go "whoops what did i buy" cuz they had 10 years and they 1.0'd the current state.

Every game has a "Start at A and find your way to B." So the question, to me, becomes how re-playable is it? Well that depends on whether one likes NY style or Chicago style?

And this isn't directed at anyone in particular, it seems to me, that many of the arguments add up to a strategy of many fires. Directing an answer at any point becomes difficult because there are more fires (legitimate or not) to address, and it becomes tiresome.

However, this game has a significant learning curve, that once learned is a benefit at the same time the initial luster is hard to recapture.

So, can the game be beat? Yeah, until, another facet is discovered.

It´s what I like about this game and open world games in general - no need to worry about beating anything- just play the game and have fun. This game is true open world to me - no atory other the story I play myself.

Something like that would be good.
