And it's exactly what you HAVE to do to progress effectively - binging quests like there's no tomorrow!
The progressing in crafting being related to finding and reading magazines kills the freedom of a once true sandbox imho.
I just don't dig it.
...nothing wrong with the "intended" direction, It's just not my direction.
You run out of stuff? I am playing 100% loot, 5 day re-spawn, on day 11 and I had to build separate crates for each ammo type short of arrows and bolts because I salvage them for iron. I have 296 hobo stews, and just had to build a second crate just for water. 400 repair kits and 1 of each vehicle. Getting bored already, as even the trailer home I retrofitted into a base has been upgraded to steel tier and has 6 shotgun turrets defending it through a sea of iron spikes. Mostly t6 gear with a few pieces of t5 left to upgrade. I have found 17 chainsaws and 0 augurs so dealing with the fact I have to use a t1 augur.
The game is the same as it always has been but so much more predictable now than it ever has been. Need meat? Go to the snow. Need ammo? run infested clears t4 or higher as each end crate contains literal stacks of ammo. The new armors are busted, t6 preacher gloves+t6 commando boots+t6 nerd helm and chest = 60% more damage to every thing that isn't a non zombie animal, 25% extra xp for doing literally anything you gain xp for, 25% chance to gain a extra magazine point when reading them but in practice every 4 you read you will get 6 points, and you run like you drank a energy drink with a juicy 20% speed. Also the spear changes make horde days a joke with a decent and cheap funnle base because if you spec into that thing it does almost as much damage as a auto-shotgun and rag dolls them so you don't even need ammo for hordes anymore. The game isn't balanced at all, and if it is, it is heavily balanced in favor of the player.
