Yes they are.
However its Different from Before.
In A21 the Main Reason for the Trader being OP was the Rewards he gave.
Because You would Quickly get High Tier High Quality Weapons and Equipment from the Rewards.
Meanwhile what You could Buy was Generally not really worth it. I often Smelted the Dukes because You got massive amounts of Dukes and it was an easy way to get Brass.
In 1.0 this is Different. The Rewards have been Nerfed alot. Now the Reward is Generally more of a Small Bonus. The Dukes Reward has also been Nerfed Significantly. So You get far less Dukes than before.
But now if You level up with the Trader. The Trader will have Higher Tier Items and sometimes even good Equipment. But most of all You can Buy General Crafting Items and Books there.
But you can do multiple quests in a day, you get some bonus item from the quest and a decent chunk of cash. Usually you can do quests that are 150-400m away although some are 800+ meter away which is painful to travel.
You also get significant bonuses from getting to next quest tier. (bike, boxes with a few things, multiple legendary parts etc)
Worth doing but you could rush between houses to loot multiple houses faster without traveling to trader, would be equally worth it I think.
Loot mailboxes before starting quest to respawn them, loot book stores before starting quest since it gives a lot of magazines. You can also respawn cars with quests so good if you salvage them and I assume if you take the perk to be able to pick up landmines then forts could be amazing since they have so many landmines around them.
Quests are really good but the item reward after completing one is really minor (although a box of books = 6 books worth 300 each = 1800 value if you would buy those books)
I think you aren't mentioning the other options. You also aren't factoring in the money you received in payment, the increase in reputation with the trader, or the fact that the quest may have reset the POI filling it completely with loot again.
Go ahead and refrain from doing quests if you don't think them worth it. Lots of people do traderless playthroughs so it's definitely possible but it is also viewed as a type of challenge since doing the quests are, in fact, still worth it.
Not as powerful as before yes, but their utility in giving you a bunch of random stuff, exp from quests, and being able to sell useful gear once they leveled up beats out how hard the devs nerfed them.
Firstly it gives you an excuse to go clear a building, get exp, and loot some stuff
Then trader gives you a bit of money and possibly a nice prize
Then you can sell some of the cool stuff and spend the money, plus the money the trader just gave you on more cool stuff.
The problem I always encounter is that after a while, the trader doesn't really have anything I need, since I already bought all his ammo and gunpowder.
Infestation missions is very rewarding in regard of ammo. I find the only ammo I make myself is 7.62 AP, Contact Grenades and molotovs. Haven't really bought much from traders this run, except bought frame and handlebars from Bob for a Motorcycle.
I mostly use them for mods I can't craft, skill mags/books/schematics I need or don't have, and then just get basic resources like gas, glue, ductape, ammo crafting supplies, and cement, maybe some canned food from Rekt.
Honestly the traders should have more schematics, normally the only ones they carry are just for the drone.
Maybe it's the Daring Adventurer I invested in, but traders are by far the best source of higher-end equipment than I can make myself. The two tricks:
I build my base right by the trader. This makes the extra trip to sell loot and collect rewards easy.
I travel to other traders for purchases. The original one has just junk usually, but even going to Jen after the first "trade routes" quest gives a chance for some good stuff.
lmao good to see the gatekeeping mods still having the " No, youre wrong about your opinion" attitude.
