~Maximus, Gladiator.
The lack of spawns and animals is worst in forest. I think it's meant as the beginner area. The other extreme is wasteland at night where the spawns are non-stop (literally). The lack of animals seems to mainly only be the forest for some reason. Go to the snow biome for example, and you can't throw a stone without hitting a cougar, deer or bear.
Turning on feral sense option can help a little. Although if you want to stay in forest and still have outdoor spawns some modding may be in order.
I'm not sure the optimization is the reason anymore. I say that because the wasteland at night is non-stop spawns, sometimes faster than you can kill them. And my 7 year old PC handles it at 60fps without dropping. I know because I often loot in the wasteland at night just because it's a guaranteed riot. Fire off a magazine of unsilenced mg in the air, and enjoy the rest of the night.
I think forest biome is sort of empty on purpose, because it's where you spawn in, and spend the first few days of the game with a wood club.
and apparently people are okay with it... i think it's comical but hey what do i know... am not a "game developer" so my opinion has no validity, LMAO
the only funny thing i find is in the trailer they marketed this new version, there's a shot in the city that is loaded with 50 zombies or so outside... which is essentially "false advertisement"
the only time you really have hordes of zombies chasing you is pretty much blood moon... but that's "at the player" at an attempt to kill them versus an organic world full of zombies and enemies roaming around... that isn't forced by way of "dungeons" and petty triggering orange things you trip
and the blood moon is amazing even with setting max 8 zombies they are not 8 zombies at all they just keep coming even more at stage of the game so is impressive
Wasteland is just zombie infested. Oh and the new update I was able to enjoy like 16 zombies per player during horde night, played with a friend, so 32 zombies at all time, and I was experience between 60 to 100 FPS, which is a huge boost! ^^
From my experience forest biome was with some zombies going on group 15/20 on the first 10 days that suprised me alot then i see zombies everywhere not many like 30-40 united but i really feel danger if night comes u need to hide desert biome is the GOAT seems harder than the wasteland dont know why since wasteland was harder
I saw a wandering horde my first time playing 1.0. I believe it was Day 2 or 3. If you build a base, try using a few things that generate heat, like multiple candles or torches, or have your campfire and forge going at the same time for a while. They will show up when you least expect it, and they are tough to take down, even with custom settings. Just keep your eyes peeled for dogs and other beast creatures. The zombies will be the least of your worries at that point.
