New Blood Moons Ridiculously Overtuned
Hey, so the new blood moons are no joke now. I had always increased rate to 5 days rather than 7, and slightly increased spawn rate. For the first blood moon of 1.0 I did go a little overboard and set it to 24 spawns, which was a bad idea, I went through hundreds of rounds of all ammo types using pipe guns, and barely survived by just repairing the hatch to my roof for the last hour or so. I turned it down to still 5 days, but the default 8 spawn. This basically did nothing this the next time around.

I built a basic one lane two story base, that basically I just shoot them from above while they try to break down the first door and I have obstacles slowing them down and screwing with their pathing. I’ve used this same exact base over the years up until like blood moon 4, since it’s simple and does the job, this was not the case this time. There were easily just as many zombies at 8 spawn as there was 24, and now they were dogs and hellhounds. I did survive but it was mostly due to their pathing bugging out and them attacking my support pillars rather than charge me, and yes again I did run out of all my ammo except shotgun for my pipe shotgun. I did survive again, but just seems overtuned.

Anyone have any advice for a base?

i use the same strategy but iron hatches to keep the zombies away while i shoot or hit them in the head.
I have been going with something like this. I think I'm gonna tear out the two scaffolding ladders I put to the side for some reason and put a door or hatches there to be able to throw molo's out of maybe. I put them in thinking they would give me an angle on cops if I need it, but doors to throw crap outta is probably better.

The horde progression felt way off balance compared to before.

Horde one was just regular zombos but with like a few minute break they were nonstop basically.

Day 14 and basically all Feral horde with birds and cops + spiders and everything in the mix with bikers lumberjacks.

I feel like we skipped a couple blood moons between 7 and 14.

I don't get why they keep changing things that were fine. Worse, it changed for a 1.0 release. Blood moon progression was percetly fine. I like a lot of improvement and changes from this version but others don't make sense at all.

Those who complain about being too easy it's because they probably make cheese bases that get around zombie AI pathing and mechanics and resorting to steel blocks as soon as possible with repairs during horde night. Just look at this bs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE8Tt2c8Ogo

Instead of fixing the AI to discourage cheese bases, they just brute forced and cranked zombie spawn to eleven. Just makes the game unfun for those that don't want to make those min-max bases.

I do think my biggest difficulty was that it went from the usual lots of guys for a few hours, to an entire night now. And because I was playing at higher frequency of blood moon I didn’t properly compensate for that as well as it snowballing into the next one, where since I had to use all resources the first night, I didn’t have adequate for the next one

Edit: More bloodmoon zombies can be a problem if the loot doesnt scale to the horde amount.

I don't build horde bases until I have enough resources to at least make concrete. I improvise by using POI's with roof access and very very few ways to get to it. The game doesn't spawn much at all like the acid birds till a later gamestage.

First Horde was Difficult because we lacked Ammo.

Second was managable but we messed up and the Zeds broke through.
Friend got Killed and I only Survived cause I managed to Retreat into one of our Mineshafts which I blocked off with Cobblestone Blocks.

Third was Easy we were in no Danger thanks to Plenty of Ammo and Concrete Defenses.

average default player : new horde is too hard. its impossible. its too much.

me an insane setting player just casually sitting on a roof top i didnt even build for the first 2 hordes : whats impossible or too hard about this? are people fighting head on without good weapons?

i dont see the increased horde difficulty. its just infinite spawns now basically. but the same methods for avoiding OR killing them still work. fighting them is just some extra exp tough mostly which just raises gamestage and makes it more likely to get more ferals sooner than you can handle em.

I like using pre-existing POIs for both home bases and horde night bases. Mostly the Grain Silo(it spawns fairly often) It works by planing barbed wire and woodenspikes leading to the tall ladder, stand at theladder's mid point and throw pipe bombs and molotovs and shoot down the ladder as needed , best part dogs and Direwolvs cant climb ladders. downsides vultures

Buddies Grain will allow you to funnel Zombies down to a single lane, the downside youd willhave to rebuild this one often andget it up to cobblestone or concrete

I don't feel like horde nights are any different. Just endless waves of the same old guys.

I'm just playing 12 zombie horde nights because I don't really care about making it harder. But it seems about the same as I remember.

My first horde night had 2 cop waves and dire wolves on top of it...Saw one demo as well...Since when do demos spawn so early?

Now it is not a matter of finishing off the waves but surviving to 4am. Then cleaning up whatever is left. I used to be able to finish off the horde by around 12am -2am and then have a couple hours to loot poi's with no zombies about..No longer possible.

poi zombies and city ferals still spawn even after the horde was cleared before a22. found this out the hard way.

your claim with the cops proves one thing : you are not provideing all required information to put your claim into the right picture.

for the record:

includeing the tc : IF YOU MAKE CLAIMS what happens during horde nights LIST YOUR DAMN WORLD SETTINGS. ALL OF THEM that are NOT set to default (WHITE TEXT) values. these can massively change what you see and witness during horde events as not everyone plays with your world settings.

erm, that sounds like 2 hour days and 300% xp to me. Not default settings by a long shot.

Easy low resource cost BM on day 7 is no base defence using only melee and molotovs. Works even on insane nightmare with 32/64 BM zombies. If you kill enough zombies they will stop spawning. You can quit and reload the game to make them spawn again for more xp.
