Requiring internet access for a single player game is a non-starter.
I can't play 1.0 because it requires a connection to Epic to even start. I started it without the anti-cheat enabled and it still won't let me play the game. A game I paid for that no longer works the way it should.

A single player games shouldn't require me to phone the mothership and ask permission to run.

Toxic. He has a valid and common concern. What a weird way to gatekeep - by belittling people who want to play a game the way they have always played the game.

If you have no internet, the game pops up a warning, and right under that waning is a button, "PLAY OFFLINE", why didn't you click it?

Read my comment. There is nothing valid here.

I ain't gatekeeping mate, you're not wrong about the commonality, in fact it's so common it's like it's a token trolling tactic, hence comparing it to the trolling seen in the pd3 forum.
Incidentally, 1.0 literally has the ability to actually start an offline game instead of just a private internet game... so I dunno, OP smells like a troll at worst or at best an imbecile who somehow missed the fact that you can now start an explicitly offline game now /shrug

Furthermore, now you also come across as a troll because you'd rather defend this totally invalid complaint/OP than acknowledge the demonstrable fact that "offline play" is literally more feasible in 1.0 than it was in A21...

I don't spend enough time in these kind of forums to be able to spot all the types of trolls. Let me test out your claim, by going int offline mode on steam and seeing if the game boots and I can play. If so, I apologize and will agree that OP is in the wrong. however, I do feel that you could have expressed that more gracefully. Perhaps I could have responded more gracefully as well.

Game starts in offline mode just fine. Gives a prompt saying that Steam could not be fully initiated and gives the option to retry go online or play in offline. I cede the point.

Fair response, i apologise if I pegged you wrongly there.
If indeed the game outright fails to boot in steam's offline mode, i too will eat at least a slice of humble pie, but will stand by pointing out the fact that once booted the game now supports starting an explicitly offline game.

Incidentally, OP's post speaks of running the game through Epic store... is 7dtd even on Epic?

Found this on the subject of EOS:

Not sure how relevant it is here nnow though, as it's been demonstrated that the game can both boot in steam offline and once it does, supports creating a purely offline world

Good question. Lemme check.

No, it doesn't seem to be, But the Anticheat software (EasyAntiCheat)belongs to Epic. SO there might be issues there that people are experiencing. Seems like this issue has come up before a few times. I don';t know anything else.

The game has moved to EOS (Epic Online Services) nothing to do with EGS, for it's online matchmaking, as EOS is one of the only matchmaking services to work they way the developers want across all platforms.

Maybe the -EpicPortal trick works by adding that line to the shortcut that launches the game, saved me when I played some Fallout New Vegas DLCs offline on there. (My internet is off five hours a day, its a topic near and dear to me)

Yeah doing a quick study of it clued me in on all that. Wasn't aware of the change myslef but it seems largely inconsequential and certainly, at least with 1.0, doesn't make it a "single player game requiring persistent internet connection to phone home"

Seems like op is just rehashing an outdated complaint for ♥♥♥♥♥ n giggs as it demonstrably does not apply to 1.0. Either that, or assuming the best for a momet, they're unlucky as hell to have this old issue resurface.

So, to clarify, Epic Online Services and Epic Game Store are not the same company?
PMR Jun 29, 2024 @ 5:27am
I can verify that if you block epic online services, even in single player the game will continuously ping EOS
this is horrible design and takes up extra resources

Definitely the same company, but if the game is running offline (to clarify, by that i mean you're playing literally with no active internet connection or have otherwise blocked all traffic to eos), then theoretically there's no phone call to home.
