I think the hunting perk might be of help, but don't quote me, just my guess.
It's no doubt I'll find more animals in general once I have a motorbike
plus I haven't been to the snow biome yet (which has highest animal spawns)
There have been some saying that animal spawn rates were reduced but i did not see mention of anything specific to animal spawns in the 1.0 release notes

I also get lots and lots of zombie spawns at my base, so it's annoying. Whole eight zombie squads
Seems okay to me.
went out hunting at night and found some deer and a single buck, they definitley spawn more at night. Thanks for the tip.
