For the most part, people are playing on private servers with friends. The game is sort of dead, and them putting it on console and leaving EA is mostly to get more money as the game won't make any more money staying on PC. But it's sort of a dead game where players really only come on when theres a big change or to play with friends as AAA games and indie games these days just get bad overtime with no real re-playability.

Most people play solo or co-op with friends. 7 Days is best played with friends in a closed server or co-op or played solo. Public servers are notorious for drawing the worst of humanity (term used loosely) which can cause a great deal of chaos and pain for people just wanting to learn the game. So, if you want to play with others, best is to get into the proper discussion group (get into the Meeting Room) and ask there or take a look at the private servers willing to invite new players. This game is far, far from dead, but well protected against arsehats.

Not at all. Most players play solo, with a friend, or in established closed COOP servers.

Rando's popping into accidentally open servers (or intentionally left open) is a recipe for disaster, IMHO.

Check out some of the streamers community servers, the servers advertised in the official forums, or advertised on steam, and you should be able to find a place to play.

Considering that just a week ago it hit a new record for number of concurrent players, that says it is far from dead.

I suppose it has been the standard two weeks since the last time someone started a thread with the same information too.

Game is designed for solo or small-group co-op. Which is pretty much how most people play it.
It is not designed for, and does not support, high population servers.

This game is far farrrrrr from dead lol dont you see the active player numbers? people tend to play this game solo or coop...no one plays this game multiplayer (with randoms)

This game is FARRRRRRR FROM DEAD. I have 715 Hours of gameplay, and two of my friends who introduced me to the game have over 2800 hours of gameplay. Every MOD we install adds a WHOLE level of replayability. Darkness Falls will give you 200 hours worth of replayability and Age Of Oblivion will give you another 300. The reason we play so often, is to try different difficulty modes, different survival strategies, not to mention a different architecture for our Camp every time we build one. People play with private friends who already own the game.

Just this week, I've been playing 20 hours with 4 family members and as much hours solo.

This coop group began playing 5 years ago. I started playing solo 10 years ago. I have nearly 4k hours in it.

But hey, some person (not talking about OP btw) on a forum will say this game has no replayability and is dead... ok, random person, anything that can pleases you I guess.

The game has been in the top 100 most played games on Steam for almost 10 years. Not bad for an indy game without replayability, lol.

For OP, I never open my games to general public, I play solo or with friends only. I guess most of us do. IMO, that game isn't great for PVP, but is great for solo or coop MP.

As well as all that, 7DTD is only designed for multiplayer with up to 8 people anyway. So 15 players in the same gameworld would be very unusual.

Almost everyone plays solo or co-op on a closed server with people they know. Lots of players, very, very few open public servers. The vast majority of games won't show at all because they're set to private in the game settings. 7DTD just isn't a public multiplayer type of game.

its def not dead, the ppl just dont play on public servers.

Its also an incredible game to mod so a lot of custom servers out there.

What, this game has multiplayer? I never knew.

The folks saying it's dead are objectively wrong, you can check player count history on Steam DB[steamdb.info] and see the lowest point in the last six years was still more than 10,000 simultaneous players. Just last month it hit more than 100,000 simultaneous players at one point. It's just that most people are playing private games with friends.

Well...

The players are fighting Zombies, so yeah it could be called a "Dead Game"

No. It's an Undead game.
I remember around Alpha 14 there used to be several pages of servers, all with 20 or so players on them, but you dont really see that anymore, it was easier back then to find a server, for whatever reason, you'd be lucky to see a page of servers now, then just a handful of them are PVE, have no password and are English speaking, I used to play a great server called "Rayne of the Dead" around a14, I'm still steam friends with the server owner Rayne, but she has not been online for a long time..

When 1.0 drops the servers will get a lot more active, for awhile anyway.
