I'll tell you why.
Consoles.
Every single step backwards taken with the design of this game was for one single reason.
Consoles.
The game used to have layers of complexity requiring thought. All stripped away over time.
For consoles.
Obviously they'd have to tweak the randomness of it a bit so it still made realistic zombies, but oh well, never gonna happen now.
Their obsession with porting to consoles has had a huge (and in my opinion detrimental) effect on the end product.
It was a stupid idea then, and it's a stupid idea now...I can only imagine how much more they could have done if they had only abandoned this daft idea, rather than basing the entire final build on it.
Minecraft had better characters than the original system. So of course someone wants to make the graphics worse again just to be countrary
