Why did you make character creation worse?
First off, I will say that the character models look much better. This is NOT a complaint about the graphics update!

That said, the character creator is terrible now. You removed the ability to ACTUALLY make a custom character in favor of...four custom faces. That's it. Four face types and hair. Why did you gut the character creator, exactly? I won't be able to get anything close to the character that I've been playing FOR YEARS because of this change. Now everyone is just going to be a bunch of clones.

Also, PLEASE don't give me a generic response about how you'd have to make art for all of the options, yadda yadda. Tons of other games have the customization feature that you guys ALREADY HAVE and ARE REMOVING and they work perfectly fine, so that's not an excuse.

This game NEVER focused on character creation from what I understand. There is a list of preset characters you can choose from and that's it. The rest are modded in. So unless you want to spend hours and hours learning to code just so you can create a custom character, this is all there is.

Incorrect. There is an option in vanilla to create your own character and has options for almost every aspect of your head and body.

Simply put, because TFP wants to.

I would assume that it would've taken too much development effort, aka money, to make that new character creator as customisable as the old one is. I wonder, though, is there nothing "stock" that you can just grab from the unity store or such? Or would that be considered an "asset flip"? I wouldn't know why every game would have to reinvent the wheel, faces are faces and bodies bodies.

If they didn't make the creator from scratch, I have no answer either. Except maybe they didn't want any "funny" looking characters for their very serious game.

Which is worse? Only 4 modernized characters to choose from? Or a character creator with Playstation2 graphics?

I dunno... 4 base faces.. per race and gender..., and then everything else you can adjust? Sounds like a good variety to me, considering how infrequently we'd be seeing our characters own face. Suppose it might matter in multiplayer but.. *shrugs*

Sexes: Male or Female
Races: Black, White, Asian, Native
Face: Each race and sex has four different face options for a total of 32 face options
Eyes: There are over thirty eye color options
Hairstyles: There are twenty unique hairstyles
Hair Color: There are ten unique hair colors
Mustaches: There are five unique mustache styles to choose from
Chops: There are five unique lamb chop styles to choose from
Beards: There are five unique beard styles

The lack of body types is what bothered me the most. They really hyped up the customization but it's so underwhelming. The 1.0 overall looked pretty underwhelming. They also changed the looks on a lot of the outfit sets from what they teased, unfortunately. Plus mixing/matching sets negates the "bonus" which...eh.

Kinda mixed feelings on these changes, especially now they are making it "1.0". Feels like they are gonna slap the "It's done" sticker on it then pile on DLC's now after the three main core updates to 1.0.

Guys this isn't Second Life, nobody is gonna ♥♥♥♥ your avatar. You are here to slay zombies, not to date them.

Take my points. This x1000.
I'll never figure out how vanity and apocalypse survival mix. If I have to spend more than 10 seconds picking a character, this isn't the game for me.
Oh my god.. This game doesn't have jars, or my favorite eyeliner color. Weak....

Tbf it's a first person perspective game, unless you have a working mirror in-game or drive vehicles all the time there really is no need to worry

More or less this,I guess.

With the 1.0 move they have reached a point, where they actually have to bring all features to a level that can be considered an actually developed thing, and not some "makeshift something like that maybe" - thingie.

They now have to commit to how to handles the technical inherent problems with some details of their very ambitious initial vision.

So either they get the very customizable (up to absurdity) "old" char editor to work *without* generating models, that causes clipping issues again (that they just fixed for 1.0), or they limit the editor in a way, to ensure this.

On top of that they are dealing with the limitations the console-poets bring with them, I guess.

All my beef I have with 1.0 aside, I am still very impressed how much TFP actually understands what they are doing, and their commitment to actually deliver on an actual game, that is as close to their vision, as they can get it with their team.

Nobody cares about that. You can't make a buff giga-chad anymore for a melee build or a skinny small stealthy dude. Now it's just "Guy with beard" or "guy with no beard."

Less customization aside .. I can finally see proper skin color and clothes worn reflected in first person view now.
they need to bring back the color palette, now i can't make red, green or blue characters.
