Performance Issues
Why does a game that have very dated graphics (2010 era) run so bad? I have a Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 3070 and 32GB RAM and the game is on a fast M.2 SSD. But I am only able to get around 60fps that sometimes drops down to 25-30 in some locations. How is that possible? I play more modern games that look vastly better in terms of the graphical department, and they all run much better than this game.

It's been discussed a lot in many topics. Basically, it's different than static games and should get a bit better when near the release date.
Runs fine for me with a lesser CPU. Also note, this game IS CPU bound.

I have the following system hardware, and these video settings at 1440p, and the game runs just fine. Averaging 110-160FPS in most places. In a city situation it might drop into the 45-70FPS range for a bit, but it is perfectly playable.
  • CPU : AMD R9 3900X
  • RAM : 32B DDR4 at 3200Mhz
  • GPU : MSI Radeon RX 6800 XT Gaming Z Trio
  • Monitor : Samsung 32" G5 Odyssey 1440p x3
  • OS drive : 500GB Evo 860 SATA SSD
  • Game drive : A pair of 2TB Sabrent Rocket Q4's in RAID-0
  • Steam/Saves drive : 2TB Seagate BarraCuda 120 SATA SSD
  • Game client and save folders are excluded from security software.
  • OS is Windows 11 with current updates, and all supplier bloatware has been removed.
As long as you keep video settings to something reasonable everything works as expected.

This game actually runs better on mid and low systems than it does on high-end systems. I would also suggest turning off dynamic mesh, regardless of the system. Not only does it not work as intended but it's also very resource heavy and cause issues with recent drivers (Nvidia in particular). I would also turn off bloom since Bloom is only distracting and eats up resources unnecessarily. And tun off DOF since it has been confirmed by the devs that it does not work--it's eating into resources tho.
Have made large mods for this game for years it runs like ♥♥♥♥ when you have large amounts of zombies around even on good systems. If you have a half decent gpu the graphics setting you use don't matter its when zombies are added because of bad optimization. Last time I tested with an old gpu I saw no difference in fps between low and high settings with a 1050ti once 50 zombies were added. This game still will run at 30fps on my system when large numbers of zombies are active with a 13700k and 4070ti just bad optimization.
