Are you proving me wrong?
Try this out: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri
PC gaming is an expensive hobby, if you can't afford a basic upgrade every few years. Then PC gaming is not for you, I suggest something cheaper, like birdwatching, or hiking....
Still cheaper than a decent gaming PC, so my point is valid...
Have you tried setting the resolution via launch options? You can access launch options for a game by right clicking it in your library, clicking properties, and clicking set launch options.
In the box that comes up, you want to type "-screen-width 800 -screen-height 600" without quotes. I believe those are the parameters used by 7 Days to Die to set screen resolution in this matter.
Give that a try...can't promise that it will look quite right or even work, but it's better than everyone else's Ivory Tower responses, right? Anyway, I hope it works out for you.
They can be set via the registry.
I should warn you. 4:3 screen resolutions tend to cause the interface elements to overlap. Further, so do smaller resolutions even when 16:9 or 16:10. As such the interface is likely to overlap itself and compromise most of your screen at 800x600
That said:
Start > Run > regedit
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\The Fun Pimps\7 Days To Die
The values you would want to adjust are (the stuff after the underscore makes no difference):
Screenmanager Is Fullscreen mode
Screenmanager Resolution Height
Screenmanager Resolution Width
Screenmanager Is Fullscreen mode -- 0 = Windowed, 1 = Fullscreen
By default the height and width may be in hex or binary. If it displays in hex with a radio button you can just select the button to switch to decimal. If not you can use Windows Calculator to figure the correct values. I'll list some common height and width settings below.
Decimal value is the number you would normally refer to your screen as.
DecimalWidthxDecimalHeight
Format below is Measurement: Hex Value (decimal value)
1920x1080
Width: 780 (1920)
Height: 438 (1080)
Here is the 800x600 cavlues requested:
Width: 320 (800)
Height: 258 (600)
Some of them were telling him that the resolution isn't supported (which isn't really necessary since he already knows that), but a lot of them were ridiculing him for having an old computer, telling him that the only way to play pc games is to have top-of-the-line equipment, and generally poking fun at him for not having the money to get a computer that can run the game at what general gamers deem acceptable. That is completely unnecessary, inappropriate, and just plain cruel. Is it appropriate to single out someone driving an older car because it doesn't have features and options that most drivers deem acceptable nowadays and tell him that he shouldn't even bother driving?
Frankly, my point is that if people would be a little less ignorant and a little more empathetic, he probably would have gotten his answer sooner and maybe get to go enjoy the game.
