Game seems devoid of life
Back on ps4 I remember tons of zombies roaming the streets but now they fear the sun. Alpha 22 should bring back the zombie population slider or make it to where they spawn outside.

Maybe its for fps reasons but idk. I'm just giving my 2c on this as Ive seen others talk about this too.

Zeds were reduced back in Alpha 14 because UMA was very costly, and not well optimized. UMA was removed in a21, and a lot of optimization options are being done to a22.

I do hope that they increase the wild and city spawns accordingly.

Yea thanks for the info, I just remember there being zombies then there were no zombies. I do hope they increase the pop now that they can.

There are simple modlets available for increasing wilderness spawns and random wandering horde sizes. You are correct that TFP has to make tough decisions about the stability of their game for the largest number of people who may play. But if your computer can handle more zombies it is very simple to do.

It would be nice if they can add a slider to the options menu at some point but for now using or modlet or going into the config files and changing the spawn numbers youself is your best bet.

If it turns out your game suffers too much of a performance hit you can always remove the mod. Then, in that case, you'll be glad to know that YOU are one of the gamers TFP was trying to protect by keeping the zombie numbers where they are.

seems ? lmao

what kind of zombie universe has no waves of zombies in public trying to chase after you through the woods or forest... you can literally fire your gun a thousand times and no one will care

but apparently, they don't seem to care about that ?

I'm sure they care a great deal, as shown by the time and effort they've put into the game thus far. As noted in other posts, they have to strike a balance between gameplay and performance, while trying to please / appease the greatest number of players. Not everyone can afford the latest & greatest equipment, and it would be a disservice to the player base if they only focused on providing content for top-notch rigs. I, too, miss the large wandering hordes and the thrill of stumbling upon or being jumped by a large group. There has to be trade-offs, unfortunately, but I think it's unfair to characterize the devs as "not caring." Just my opinion.

am just saying if they're putting more effort into selling "paint" than other more important things, then... yeah

not obviously it goes without saying the game runs way better than it did when i started playing, i can get a smooth experience now in single player which i couldn't get in A20

and my vehicles dont melt into the ground anymore lmao... but again, with improvements come problem... the game destroyed a lot of the cool things like variety of zombie skins, why ? don't know

we literally see the same 5-6 skins a thousand times, it's just mentally not immersive
but i

digress

Performance. They keep banging up against performance constraints. Add one thing, have to remove something else.

There should be more variety in zombies in A22. Variation in clothing and skin colour, which will help to reduce the "same few identical zombies thousands of times" thing.

You can use mods to add more zombies, more varieties of zombies, etc, but performance will suffer. So how viable it is depends on what performance you're getting now. I've run with a mod that has random hordes of dozens of zombies roaming around, plus more zombies spawning all over the place, plus 2 or 3 times as many different zombies plus a wide variety of sizes of zombies, plus numerous ranged attackers. It makes quite a change when the huge zombies attack your base 4 blocks up instead of the usual 2 blocks up. The performance hit was heavy. So was the difficulty hit. Morning of day 1 I ran into a giant dog that had a ranged attack and an always on passive AoE fire attack around it. Quickest death I've had since I was a noob and I attacked a wild pig with my newly made quality 1 stone axe wearing just a couple of bits of plant fibre clothing and no armour.

I.e; TFP is lazy and doesn't know how to program or optimise their game, so they simply have removed everything that was good about it so it maybe runs better - guess what, it actually still doesn't run much better despite this.

Yeah, I remember the days of old when 7daystodie was actually a good zombie game and not some abortion cave explorerer trying to be a bethesda game.

i just wish the game would take a step back on some of the choices. this use to be one of my favorite games. i know my opinion doesnt matter. its been made clear a few times when i state how i feel. but this game had the chance to be the best zombie game ever. then it turned into a game that couldnt even hold its own against even COD zombies (not a fan at all). project zomboid ended up being the way i went. tfp your game. but why just get by? you could thrive

Uh, from my somewhat limited experience (friend gifted me the game, have about 100 hours), the performance still has a LONG way to go, at least where it pertains to zombie processing, on a vanilla server at the "medium" preset (I'm on an older rig with an i7 2600K, 16GB of DDR3 and a 6GB 1060), playing with a few friends defending a very modest reinforced house base, on ~ day 80ish blood moon, my framerate dropped to 6-8 FPS. Yes, I know my CPU is ancient at this point, but I'm realistic about what it's capable of, not trying to push settings and at the defaulted medium preset the pop-up is pretty noticeable with road signs/cars etc. not appearing until they're like 10' from me as it is and dropping everything to "low" really didn't make all that much of a difference in the worst case scenario.
