Traders fort getting destroyed by Z's?
I first noticed issues when I loaded into my save today and all terrain seemed to be acting weird, failed to load in or something until I got rly close...

Then I couldn't start my quest, nor abandon it. Clicking the start quest icon just open the console with some type of error. I reloaded the save and now the quest was gone.

Then I started building up a new base near a new trader and I noticed I could place my land claim block very close to the traders walls... I didn't think much of it yet at that point and continued my business.

Untill a pack of dogs started hacking away at the walls and actually broke them and got inside the traders fort...

Is my save screwed or fixable somehow? Known bug? I don't even know how I triggered it...

Have you tried resetting the chunk using the dev tools?
Alternatively, are you using any mods because there are some that removes the safety net the traders have in the default game.

No mods, completely vanilla. Is this a common occurence though? First time it happens in 70 hours playtime :(

7dtd breaks. It yeets files, or fails to call 1 suddenly chunks corrupt from some digging a hole in it, building over water etc. If in 70 hours it';s the first time you've seen it poop the bed you're fortunate.
Just reset the chunk, if that doesn't work just start over and crank your xp and loot rates up to catch up to where you were within a few hours. You can always lower them later to make it more "fair".

Thanks for the warning... Guess I'll drop the game until it's official release... If that will ever happen :|

There was an old bug a few years ago when traders could sometimes fall through the ground, but personally I haven't experienced it since like alpha 18. Overall, I would say the game runs pretty well, in my latest world that I've sunk something like 80 hours into I think I've fixed some minor issues a handful of times.

Dont drop the game if you like it. Been playing a while and I've only lost progress twice and both times were early on when I was new. Haven't had any issues for several months.
Does resetting a chunk delete my base and loot? Cause if it does, there really is no point continuing right now.

I've been gaming for 40 years and thus somewhat understand how games work. My best educated guess is that resetting a chunk, however big a chunk is, also deletes what I have built and gathered :(

Sure I could restart with XP and loot multipliers to get back to where I somewhat was... I did right now. But if this happens again, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna leave this game in the oven for a while longer. Maybe it is just a personal thing, but I feel llke cheating when I do this. Which in turn makes me not want to play anymore.
I think resetting a chunk only resets the area (square) you are resetting and leaves everything else be. I only did it the once and it was a while ago.

So if you've built a base on the same chunk as the trader (the one you are about to reset) then the base is getting reset too. Much like when you build a base in a POI, accept a quest in the POI and then activate the quest. Your base disappears and the POI resets to it's default.

Just found these old posts

How do you reload chunks in 7 days to die?
Just F1, type DM, enter, type CR, (for chunk reset) enter. This is while you are at the bugged area. CR will just reset whichever 'chunk' area of the map you're at

What is a chunk in 7 days to die?
Every chunk (a 16 X 16 block area)

Not sure how current this info is

The chunkreset command has an option to reset just the POI. This would reset only the trader area. I would suggest first excluding your client and save folders from security software, and then validating your files a few times. What you described in the OP would only occur if data were missing or corrupted.

Moving this to the correct forum section. There are details in the Pins.

Thanks man, that was defo a bit more helpful :) I always wonder how things like that happen tho... "file missing or corrupted". Especially after I just installed it. But I am no expert ;)

I went through validation and hope I'm safe from corruption for a while.

also, I loaded that corrupt save to test the chunkreset command. It did nothing to the world and it gave in console: "Missing paint ID XML entry: 255 for block "concreteShapes:cubeTrimQuarterEdgeTwosided'

9 times out of 10, if you have to resort to using the chunk command. then your save file is already corrupted beyond repair. It may fix a small issue here and there for a short time but eventually you will run into even more issues later on.
