Save the grass and use it to make tons of stone axes. This is a cheap way to boost your tool skill. You will also slowly raise your athletics skill punching grass. If you use a blunt weapon that will raise your blunt skill.
In blocks.xml find <block id="20" name="fertileGrass"> and change
<property name="PlantGrowing.GrowthRate" value="2" /> to a higher value? Instead of trying to cut more grass, just slow the rate grass grows? Of course if this works, it'd affect more than just your lawn.
Or maybe block 19 if you just want a dirt lawn (tempted to try that one myself as I hate farming a row of crops, only to find the dirt at the start has changed to grass by the time I start reseeding).
Put a stack of 500 wooden frames in your belt and place them all down where you want to get rid of grass, and then pick them all up again. No more grass. It might be a little bit faster than punching every grass block, but mostly it's just slightly less annoying.
...except for the little rocks.
...and of course if you don't want the land "flattened" like placing frames does, not an option
Pipe bombs are a fun solution, I heard they don't damage the ground anymore
All in all, I punch and harvest the grass because I usually have need of it later
Using a power weapon doesn't help though, unless you are very good with aiming at grass
...main reason I rarely used explosives in the past. Not around the base anyway. Do the other explosives still damage terrain, or not?
Pipe bombs do damage the ground, rather well in fact.
Saves me from accidentally blowing a hole in the side of the hill where my gate is going to be
Well, to clarify, it has changed recently, and a few times really.
So yes, as of 13.8 pipe bombs will damage the ground.
There were versions of I think A13, and for sure A12/A11 to where they did very little to virtually no damage to the ground.
Similar to the rocket launcher, during some versions of A11-A12 you could use up 50 rockets on a random house and it'd still be standing...and other versions 10 rockets would put so much hurt on a house parts would be collapsing...20 would take down mostly the whole thing.
I'm on day 30, no guns....missing shotgun shells and calipers to start making ammo...
Having a weird run based on towns, temps and such...but yeah just did the 28 day horde on level 4 difficulty with Iron arrows / bow and 50 pipe bombs.
Granted I only really use the pipe bombs come morning when I'm mopping up the ferals...usually kite 4-5 of them around tossing pipe bombs at their feet.
Had really odd luck...
No leather book
No Calipers
No shotgun book or shotgun shells book
No flaming arrows
No crossbow
So its mostly the Bow, Spikes n Pipebombs game for me at the moment...but I can make steel, concrete and have a minibike...so theres that lol.
I ended up manually breaking up the bits and floor left
