Spider Zombies Vs Walls

My husband and I recently started a new map and have chose a prefab house to turn into a starter base. We are discussing our defences and want to build a wall around the base.

My question is, what do you guys do to keep the spider zombies from climbing over the walls?

Is it as simple as adding upside down ramps on the outside edge of the wall? Will they get past that? Or maybe iron bars on the outer edge?

Make a 1-2 block out, or more, all the way around the walls that way they can't climb it, and just ends up falling down and retrying to scale the wall. Put some spikes below that, and the spider zombies will kill themselves that way over time.
That is how i do it, when i have decided to make a permanent home.

What jesperds described is making a "lip" around a building to prevent the spider zombies from crawling past them. It can be as simple as just placing a single layer of wood frames around the entire building to prevent the spiders from climbing up, You don't have to place the lip at the top of a building for it to work, it only has to be high enough so that the zombies don't find a way to climb on it.

You can also opt to go with a more elaborate build for your lip, like using wood frames instead to create somewhat more appealing (personal opinion) ledge around the building for a slanted edge instead of a blocky one.

You can even scrap those for metal trussing or iron bars if your lip. While less ascetically pleasing (again, personal opinion) then the wood ramps, those two lip choices have the added benefit of you being able to fire through them with your guns so you can easily pick off any zombies that are stuck down below. Note, iron bars also allow you to fire crossbow bolts and arrows through them as well so that's also something to consider.

Spiders climb straight up (like they're climbing a ladder). If there's some part that sticks out, that'll block them.

Absolutely correct. If you create an overhang, no matter if ramp, block or bars, the spiders will not be able to get up on the wall

iron bars or some kind of ramp out of wall.wooden spikes around base cripled thys spider visitors :P (no legs,no spider Z ) :) in my base sometimes 1 or 2 pass over...then i velcome with shotgun :D and so sorry for my english.

I have built a wall four blocks high and they still got up there to the top. I added a one block high extension and it seemed to work.

Hi from germany, as already said to keep spiders away from climbing kind of wall with 1 block like ramp frames around the whole wall and spikes on the ground keeps them away. they get KIA on the spikes. the Pimps are recreating the zombie gore blocks. If these blocks are back in the game, one line of ramps will not be enough. I bet the spiders are going to climb over the corpses. In the Alpha 12 I had 3 Lines of ramp frames at a six block high wall. bulidt an extra column at all the outter corners, again ramp surrounded. The effect is, you both can shoot along 2 sides at the same time to defend your base without movement. Don´t buildt too large or too small. If a screamer shows up, let her not see you. She will also finally die on the spikes as the spiders do. Let the problem vanish itself^^ good luck and best regards.

i use iron bars round the side so i can shoot them from above.

No, barbed wire only slow zombies down and makes em lose a small amount of HP, spiders CAN climp on wire. use iron bars, everyones doing it, mainly cus you can shoot through em on horde day while they beat on your walls
