Simple yet Effective Horde Bases
Anyone have some examples they could share?

I often have a hard time motivating myself to push towards the first horde night because I never know what to invest time on in making whether or not new updates end up making certain builds useless or I just simply don't know what to build and I certainly don't use pois I just don't see the point

I usually just make a rectangular shaped base with an opening to kill zombies via melee. It's usually about 5 blocks high so they can't get on top. I double layer it (with plates on the outside so it's thin walls) in cobblestone or concrete so it's not easy to break into. And it has a ladder (with a hatch at the top) that is 2 blocks up so I can get in and out but the zombies can't. I usually put an overhang around the sides (at the top edges) so it's not possible for zombies to get on top, even though they would have trouble getting up anyways.

The zombies will always attack at the window opening because they are programmed to attack the spots with the least durability and the window spot will have less hitpoints so it's the perfect way to lure/manipulate the zombies where you want. The zombies can sometimes sneak through a one-block-space so sometimes I'll stick another small block in the opening to make the hole a little smaller so the zombies can't crawl through my kill-window.

It's a very uninspired build that I use when I can't think of a clever base to build:)

It works very well and it can be very small and low in resource requirements to build.

Honestly to me trying to make a decent horde base that is up to date currently and works especially going through the first few horde nights is like playing minecraft without knowing any recipes you just don't know what works plus you can't exactly rely on any youtube videos because most of them are either end game resource heavy or they just don't work anymore and sometimes you can't really find decent beginning ones without having cop zombies spit at it or they use cheese blocks that are patched now so usually i end up getting lost because I simply just don't know what to build and I especially don't like using pois

Cops spitting through walls has been an issue that needs fixed. I just started playing again so I don't know if the current update changed anything.

I don't prefer to use POIs either.
My build works for me though. I save clay and stone for the first week (about 2000 maybe?) and I can usually make a small base from cobblestone by day 7. It's not pretty but it usually works okay for the first 21 days or so. Partly depends on difficulty settings.

I still find that the raised path base works well. Raise it at least 4 blocks high. Make the base at least 3x3 with a door way in the middle. Put a hatch door just inside the doorway and keep repairing it through the night. If you keep the front and hatch repaired it should get you through the night.

Its not a bad idea, I heard that if you make the base height around 11 - 12 they don't enter rage mode when they hit the ground but im not exactly sure iv heard that tight rope builds aren't a bad idea either

Honestly watch Glock9's videos and build a pit horde base like he does. They work well for most hordes up until demolishers. His previous cabin by the lake serieshas a great pit base concept.

Raised platform base, 4 blocks high, single ladder goes to hatch, open block space around the hatch so you can shoot and drop pipe bombs down below. You also crouch and use a spear on those below the hatch if you want and it keeps the hatch in range to repair as you fight. Easy to build, effective with multiple combat styles.

hi..

this is a great starter base vid, with a easy understanding and build out. izprebuilt does a good job here. give it a watch.

Why would they nerf it? :P
Isn't the tag line for this game that it's like a zombie "tower defense" aswell?

Designing super effective horde base defense setups is meat and potatoes of tower defense.

You can just build a wall 2 blocks high and maybe 30 blocks long, then run back and forth on it, throwing molotovs at the zeds for the first 2-3 BM's. I recommend making a square 30x30, and then making a platform 15x15 within it, and upgrading it all to cobblestone. This will increase your level, rapidly. From there, you can build your tower ontop of that platform.

My favorite is a sturdy tower with an auto-sledge on top facing exposed ladder, vulture-proofed ladder. Couple that with a stun baton with repulsor and let the yeetus commence. Maybe not very efficient/effective, but hilarious. May have also put markers at each 10 meter line to see how far I could toss a zombie (38 was the high score for the height of our tower)

A somewhat related question that doesn't warrant a new thread :

Does driving on a Mini bike works as a cowards way of dealing with horde?

I noticed it's faster than running zombies but i didn't dare to use it during BM thinking there might be a catch.
