For example, their could be a 4th tier fists weapon called the “power fist” and have a special attribute only for that weapon, like knocking zombies away, or a machine gun called the “bullet hose” where it has bottomless clip and only needs to be stocked up with lead and gunpowder.
Of course these are just examples, but any sort of special 4th tier legendary weapon would be nice.
I'm not saying it's impossible, mind you, but even the most dedicated and rich collectors in the USA probably only have a "cheap" knockoff of the real thing. Heck, I think nowadays it would be difficult to find a good one even in modern Japan !
Why not make one out of scrap? Our character can make really high quality weapons and machines out of bunch of scrap. He/She is better than MacGyver ^^
So I can see how from a "player can make this" mechanic that it would not really fit properly. They should be something like a very rare loot item though IMHO.
Lawnmower blade + some handle and misc components. Boom. Done. Scrap Katana!
Like discount Shishkebab from Fallout and this game has magic flaming weapon mod too so one could make an actual Shishkebab Sword xD
Besides crafting a makeshift katana is less nonsensical than smelting and crafting working bullets in a makeshift mud brick forge or making functional robotic turrets with working advanced IFF system out of household items and scrap.
EDIT: However finding components for said sword/scrap katana and/or the weapon itself could work as rare loot only yea.
The weapon thing in 7dtd is quite... not entertaining. All the weapons do ~ same damage. Relating to early-mid game. Of course, on day 1000 it will somehow change. Don't start it. Some of the weapons have different attack range and that's it. In an open world looter-shooter game, you should be able to... well, find things. People have many strange and cool things stored in their houses. A random Morningstar and a knight armor in some mansion? Why not? A mustang in some garage that you can re-modify into the zombie slashing machine or leave like it is, so it had more speed, instead of heavy metal plates on? Or just wrench it down.
The cosmetics thing that's been forced through games since forever changed the way games are made, and it will probably stay this way forever. Many players want their characters to look unique and fashionable.
I've just seen the A22 road, and i can tell there are 2 things that will probably change the game big time: beautiful characters (We all know where it's going) and the Steam Workshop(We also know where it's going) . The Workshop will make 7dtd into Skyrim. All those YT videos of how "I've made this game into something else with 999 mods", "why bother playing the vanilla", etc. From that point even less players might want to play an unmodded game. Servers will probably become a mess. (wait, there are servers?)
And here comes the question: Why for the devs to even add something into the game after adding the workshop? You want a lightsaber? Workshop. You want more zombies? Workshop. You want more vehicles? Workshop. Bandits? Workshop. You want more weapons? Workshop.
Serious answer: a real Katana is not a weapon you'd commonly find in Arizona.
But there is full functioning junk drone that will fly always behind you.
Still i thought the same about having special weapon for all weapon tiers. For example Minigun in AR skill tree or a powerfull full auto cannon that shoots shotgun shells (like in Metro 2033)
