I underestimated robotic sledge
I had hoard night and prepared the base, but I noticed that the zombies weren't making it to the kill zone. The 2 robotic sledge at the stairs leading up to the base were killing and stopping 90% of the incoming wave. I ended up getting out of my safe zone and simply stared as the zombies were being rag dolled and died as the 2 robotic sledge bopped the zombies.

Yep, the are way underrated.

I put one on the side of the bridge leading to my bloodmoon base right in front of the door and it just keeps knocking them off. They get maybe one attack in before being sent flying. My next plan is to put a blade trap in the area they fall into.

Also I thought only one turret could be active at a time? I had a gun turret and sledge turret but only would look active.

You can use up to two sledges, two automatic turrets or one of each when you get Robotics (I think) to a high enough level, and the distance you can be away from them and they will still work increases.

I see, thanks!

They have always been very good. Its both a blessing and a curse sometimes. In my current play through I built my base inside a poi (as I do) and made this bridge for the zombies to run across to get to me but also with a few blocks along it to slow them down with jumping up and down. Then at the end of the bridge right before it turns towards me I put a sledgy boy.

That one sledge can almost keep the entire 32 count horde at bay. The plan had been to have him knock some down so I could melee anything except cops and demos. The reality is I have to shoot everything crossing that bridge if I want to get any kills cause that one sledgy stops 90% of the horde from ever getting to my melee part. This is a str fort build too so I have no robotics making him attack faster. Thats just jumps and basic sledgeboi.

I made an obstacle course with blade and electric traps on a walkway like 10 blocks up and just as they get to my metal door they get sledged back off the course and have to go through it again.. it's pretty awesome.

Something that might be useful for later hordes - be careful about the placement of sledgy when demolishers start showing up, to make sure it doesn't set them off.

Since the sledge moves up and down by itself, what would be the better placement? Dig it one tile down to prevent it from reaching the chest area?

I really like constructive threads like this. barely talked about mechanics or tools/weapons/armor and such that have hidden or seldom talked about, characteristics, and/or benefits, I have seldom used sledges, mostly because I start so many new games and rarely get one. But an old video I saw of a player using one on their horde base impressed me. A lot. One sledge right at the top of the stair/pathway and the player could kill Z`s at their leisure and so many Z`s got knocked down to start their pathing all over, the player controlled the horde riki tik. I like only one weapon better and best of all, the turret lol. One at your busy place stops those sneaky devils if you are absorbed crafting, or whatnot.

Talking about mechanics I initially thought of having the 2 sledges aligned in the 7x1 pathway leading to the kill zone, but I was afraid that the boop would trigger destroy mode when they fell off the elevated pathway. The result was me putting it in the entrance. However I'm thinking of making a little house so the zombies have no where to fall off of and keep getting booped while down :P

I'm sure some will think I'm whatever but we actually turn these off and/or nerf them down soooo low on our server.. I think they are the cheapest BS mechanic in the game not ONLY are they incredible bullet sponges they also blow up and destroy a HUGE area if you don't address them accordingly.. and sometimes they can blow up without US doing anything wrong they can get hit by other zombies or other things and have them go off. So for my friends and I they are pure BS like bunker busters so yea.. I did not spend hours, days building a base some some clown can just blow it to pieces in one kamikaze move.

The trigger button for a demolisher looks like it's on the demolisher's right side to me. I might be wrong, but I think it's better to make sure that the zombie pathing and sledgy placement results in sledgy hitting demolishers from the left of the demolishers. Their left, not your left.
