Fix for Crashing
I have three computers that play this game. One of them only has 4GBs of memory - this computer was crashing after the user would walk a few steps. The log would show an access violation (Resulting from accessing memory unavailable.)

The fix is to download the 32-bit client via SteamCMD. This will enable users who were having access violation errors on 64-bit clients to play the game. The computer before could only play the game for at most 30 seconds - now the game has been successfully playing for several minutes without any crashes.

Here are the instructions you should follow:

https://7dtd.illy.bz/wiki/Download32Bit

Follow them closely and the game should work for you too.

This fixes the following crash types:

Walking a few feet - crashing.
Moving your mouse a few times - crashing
Loading up the map and crashing as the animation plays
Etc..

To confirm if you have this problem look in the 7DTD LOG subfolder for the crash log - open it in notepad and you'll see an access violation error listed near the top. If you have this problem, the above solution will most likely solve it.

Tried it out...and nothing changes.
The game crashes a few seconds after spawning.

You guys are starting the NEW 32-bit executable that is now installed in your newly made SteamCMD folder and not the original one right? It is important to note that you will now have TWO installations of 7DTD after doing this - the original in the steam folder (launched by using steam) and the NEW one in the SteamCMD folder in a subdirectory named 7DTD.

You leave the steam client running in the background - but run the new 32-bit executable manually from within the SteamCMD\7DTD folder. If you just launch with steam - you'll only be running the 64-bit version. Launch only manually from within the extracted folder you created in the beginning. It's portable and you can move it wherever you like and delete that folder when\if a hotfix is made to the 64-bit version that you normally launch with steam.

If you know all this and you're sure you've done the steps correctly, then you just have a different issue. This fix only works for crashing that happens after moving your mouse or walking a few feet and then puts an access violation error in the crash dump. Any other kind of reasons for crashing, and this won't do anything for it.

so i did this.. or im trying to but im PC illiterate. I downloaded the steamcmd and entered in the lines per the directions but now i just have a crap ton of random 7days folders n files on my desktop rather than in a steamcmd folder... can i just create a new folder and throw it all in there?

the steamcmd is 40% done with its download i should add, but all the downloads are going to files/new icons on my desktop is what im saying, like a dozen or so of them, if that makes sense not sure if im saying it right.

Without knowing for sure what you did - I would say you probably tried running the steamcmd.exe file from within the downloaded zip file. This defaulted the installation to your desktop.

Look for a folder named 7DTD on your desktop (after the download is 100% finished) - inside of it will be the 7DTD and 7DTD_EAC executables - launch whichever one you want (EAC or without).

If it doesn't work or you can't find it, I would just start over. Right-click the downloaded zip file and click 'extract here' - it will make a new folder named SteamCMD. Open that folder and then double-click the steamcmd.exe - then proceed with the steps again. This time you'll get a portable steam installation from witin that new folder.

I give up. I have done everything in the forums possible. If there isnt a hotfix for the crash to desktop then oh well. ^&*( it.

Restart your steam client and leave it running in the background. Even though the game is launched manually from within the new folder you download - steam still has to be running in order to authenticate that you actually own the game.

Doctor3d..... I'm catchin what you are throwing... here is the thing.... the game shouldn't have to go through hoops to play. why would you have to run a 32 instead of a 64? and why would that not have been addressed already?
I'm not pissed at the PImps.. I know they are workin on it. I would just like to see that they know about it and say a fix will be on the way. instead what I am seein is.. check this and check that and run this or that delete delete load run. what are your specs? you do everyhting and a metric crapton of peeps can't get on. not even offline, just to play the game in SP.
EAC has nothing to do with it cuz you can't run it in anything. you get to play 10 secs max and POOF... here is your desktop.
I wish it was just me but my wife is aright behind me with a different set up and shes got the same issue. and before I have someone say "It's your internet "... No it's not. has nothin to do with it.
So good night.

I never said it was good or OK that we should have to do all this. I'm just sharing what I did to get it working in case someone was willing to go through the hoops. I'm not sure why I'm taking flak for that? I didn't make the game. I'm just trying to help people play it. It was my wife's computer that had this problem. My computer and my son's both worked fine. Her's crashed every 10 seconds and well, I love her, so I just kept troubleshooting until I figured it out. Otherwise, I probably would have just gave up. lol.
