Iron or Steel Arrows
When will it let me use iron or steel arrows, my bow only recognizes the stone tipped arrows?
My skill is only level 18, is it skill related?

if you have moer then 1 type of arrow in ur inventory say stone and iron with bow equiped hold R to bring up a wheel to select the ammo to use.

You can use those arrows at any point if you have them. As Esdeath said hold down "R" to load different ammo types. Same goes for any weapon with multiple ammo types.

Yeah as Esdeath say, hold your reload button...

But Arrows are obsolete, you should only carry Shotgun Shells and maybe 9mm ammo if you are really in trouble. The only thing you can do with arrow that is usefull is trade those for paper. Otherwise, they use inventory space for nothing.

Arrows being useless is an opinion you are entitled too. One I would wholeheartedly disagree with. In fact the very idea they are useless is IMO asinine at best.

Well at the very least crossbow bolt are better, if you absolutely want to keep it quiet. But i have very poor results at hunting with the bow especially in the first 2-3 days and for the zed's early i favor the iron club with spikes ready to drop in case you are overun. I rarelly use the bow, it's not very fast and not enough to kill with headshot before the iron arrow for the most common zed's and even steel arrow head don't seem to be that good when you have so many other options.

But yeah i may use a bow for a very short time, until i find something better as ranged weapon. usually you can find the leather by looting if you don't have the book to turn the hide into leather and a forge.

Personally this become my first priority on day 2 or even day 1 if i manage to find a nice spot for the first night.

On the other hand, i understand why someone may want to use it, but i really don't think it's a viable choice in this version.

Maybe if they add more skills in the long run it may become something to consider for a longer time, but for now it would be the same as using your stone axe even if you you have acces to better tier of tools...

Arrows rock, cheap, almost silent, death from above. Heck after a while you can 1 shot deer with them.

Edit:
Admittidly their usefulness depends on the mode and your skill level. On Warrior it does not take long to one shot zeds.

Post Edit Edit:
Go with Iron, steel is not worth it. Flaming arrows are so expensive just use the steel arrows you find from looting.

Indeed, and when sound is further worked on it will be likely the quietest ranged weapon of them all making it even more useful than now.

I think the main advantage of the bow is that you don't need to find any recipes for it. I have yet to find a crossbow schematic.

I have better luck finding crossbow schematics in safes. then again it can take me 50+ days to find a pistol book sometimes.

Crossbow does more damage but is slower to fire. Crossbow is great for aimed head shots from long range and a bow tends to work better at medium range. Player choice.

You have poor results with a bow in the first few days because your bow skill is very low. With a 20+ bow skill you will do a lot more damage and hit more consistently.

Like most things in 7DtD the underlying skill is very important.

I heard that there is a connection between athletics and bow/xbow damage on the current build. Leveling athletics will yield significantly higher bow damage to the point where the bow becomes overpowered. Combine this with the sneak damage bonus and the bow is your best friend. I think it may be fixed in A14, though.

Good, It feels weird to 2 shot Zeds on Insane.

So the bow quality don't change the damage, it's only your skills that help?

Yeah that would make sense i suppose, i may try to add more points in archery early on to see if i can get a better result. I thought the damage only changed with the head of the arrow you using and to be honest i could see a small difference between each of the tier but wasn't enough in my opinion.

But i usually end up with good quality firearm early than before and as soon as you have a forge and the right tools, the ammo are now easier to craft than before with the new mine system.

I just don't see why still using the bow when you have better options, like i said before it's the same as keeping your stone axe to do everything when you have access to tier 2 tools in my opinion.

Sometimes Crossbow schematics are hard to find. As for fire arms? Idk, I guess old habbits from earlier Alphas.

I usually find mine very early, you can find real treasure in the trash lying on the side of the road... I like to play with no loot respawn with 100% loot, and maybe i'm just lucky but i usually end up with purple pistol found on a toilet at day 1 or 2 (Not sure if it's just me but it's 3 out of 4 games).

As soon as you have a pistol you can kill a cop (Don't see how you would do this with a bow) and it drop a shotgun probablly 60-70% of the time, then you find a book store and you should find at least the ammo nation book and at leas 1 ammo recipe.
