I never realized how good Lucky Looter is
Not necessarily for the loot bonus as I can't really tell the difference, but just being able to instantly loot any container is a tremendous quality of life change. It's a shame it's tied to the worst attribute, but if I'm going into Perception anyways, I'm going to start putting points into it from now on.

Indeed, I've sometimes looked longingly at those reduction numbers knowing I'll never have that perk leveled up because it's Perception.

I kind of hope they change the faster looting to a book in the next alpha. On the one hand, you wouldn't be able to spec into it right away, but you also wouldn't need to waste points on an attribute you aren't going to use for anything else.

I could swear that Lucky Looter might be helping with Lockpicking. I'm pretty sure it doesn't but, I have a 3 in perception (with an item giving a +1 bonus to go from 2 to 3.) So, I have one rank in Lockpicking and 3 ranks in LL. Ever since I did level in LL to 3... I haven't failed a single lockpicking since. That's probably just a placebo effect though, lol. Now that I've said this... I'll prolly be going thru lockpicks.

Sometimes I get really long strings of luck with lockpicking even though I never put points into it. I got a pack of 50 at the start of my run and it carried me through like 30 days. Now I'm breaking them one after another and I've pretty much run through that whole stack in a matter of a few days!

I tend to tack perception on as my 3rd attribute after Str/Int solo. When I'm playing with my buddy he takes INT, I take Str and then per is my 2nd stat invested. I like being able to use rifles with penetration on horde night (and our base setup with a long single file corridor).

Plus lucky looter and salvage operations mean you get better stuff and never have to mine oil shale pretty much ever and you loot soooo much faster. It's like getting a whole extra day of looting every week.

Also stacks of Gunpowder isn't bad for a few points, lessens the mining you have to do there if you want a lot of AP bullets.

I would love to be able to put points into Rifleman, but I can never find rifles until super late game. Either they're extremely rare, or they're in odd loot ranges and the way that I play always keeps me just out of reach of them.

lucky looter is the absolute powerhouse of the wonko perk system.

The old loot boost skill was better. I forget the name, quality Joe maybe? It gave 25,50,75 loot boost depending on the rank. Or something like that.
The quick looting on lucky looter is helpful for sure though, especially for cars.

For me 5% better loot seems worse that 5% better barter. Because with barter I can choose what to buy and sell. And lucky looter may give me some odd weapon, that I will never use.

But speeding looting time is actually helpful.

Yeah. Better barter is way better actually because eventually you get all the gear in the secret stash, and that stuff is awesome. Better barter is probably about the best skill in the entire perk system, IMO.

I call it kind of a toss-up between Better Barter and Daring Adventurer... but they're both Intelligence so if you're already grabbing one it's easy to grab the other.

The thing is, traders are *too* good. I did one playthrough where I rushed those skills and spammed quests and I was fully geared out with the best gear and a base made of all steel blocks like 3 weeks into the game, then I bought a Fergetin' Elixir and re-specced into full combat stats and I was a god... whereas the blood moon horde was still just normal zombies with the occasional feral. It basically sucked the fun out of the game for me.

Faster looting and a loot bonus sounds like something that makes looting more interesting without breaking the game. But I never take Perception so what do I know...

I agree with that. I used to rush Better Barter/Daring Adventurer right away because I knew how broken those perks are, but eventually got bored with my playthroughs. So now I try not to put any points into them until much later, because I believe you actually need Better Barter to get access to solar cells.

With Lucky Looter, I don't even feel like I'm actually getting any better loot. Sometimes it even feels like I'm getting less loot than usual. But I like breezing through PoIs as fast as I can and faster looting makes that so much nicer.
ElDudorino Jun 2, 2023 @ 7:34am
Yeah there is no way to get solar without Better Barter, which is super random. But it's TFP so weird arbitrary decisions that seemingly had no thought put into them and that nobody else would have made are to be expected.

Now this has me wondering what they're going to do with solar now that they're getting rid of the secret stash from traders.

They'll still offer the same sorts of loot they did in 'Secret Stash.' It just isn't really necessary to have a separate category like that. Just put all the loot into the standard categories where it can be sorted. Currently, you can't sort the 'Secret Stash' category... which kind of bugs some people. So, Solar panels will still be a thing offered by random chance depending on your Loot Stage / Game Stage... same as any other loot.

Currently, I find it pretty useful to throw a point into LL right off the bat... early... so, you get to that next loot stage a bit quicker. Otherwise you could gain a few levels and still see nothing good come from looting. It just adds to the points for your character's loot stage so, it may or may not actually bump you up to being in the next tier of the loot stage--which would enable higher tier loot. At any rate, it will help you get to that next tier sooner. And, in the early game when you're pretty close to zero for everything... it's kind of a QoL perk worth throwin a point or two or three into.
