returning gamer - is it worth playing now?
hey survivors.

last time I played 7D2D regularly was about 2013. then long pause. I think it was two years ago, when I reinstalled the game to check progress and it was terrible. I had not lootable zeds, invincible black wolves with red eyes and other things I didnt like so I uninstalled the game.

long story short: EVERYTHING that was fun in 2013 was taken out of the game it seems to me.

is it still the case? or is the game not even worth the download? questionable is also, when the game will be full release and not early access.

You probably still won't like it. The things you didn't like are still part of the game.

Personally, I always do enjoy one game of the latest alpha. I can easily get 50 - 100 hours out of every latest release, exploring the new stuff. It's the replay-value that's not there anymore. I started an Alpha 15 game yesterday - I actually died the 1st night. It was unusual for me to die back in those days, and I don't think I ever died in A16+.

So in any case: A16+ releases have been worth a playthrough, but lack replay value. But you can go back to older alphas by opting into the "Betas" (Manage - Properties - Betas - the dropdown).

Yes, it's still the same broken game that you don't like.
Don't waste any more time on it.

its really surprising and shocking, how a game can be made bad and worse. did the community want this changes, or were it the devs?

Uh-huh…you played a bit in 2013 before it even came to Steam or for the few weeks in December when it did come to Steam and then not once again until 2021 and remembered enough to know everything that was supposedly removed that you loved so much? Loved so much that you never picked up the game to play even once in 8 years?

Let me guess…your favorite part was the Minecraftish blocky world around you and you hated that they removed the necessity of always playing Navesgane by adding infinite random maps…

no, when I played the game the blocky look was removed. I played the game with some friends back then. I admit, that I dont know exactly, when we played. in my memory, it was from 2013-2016. and the reason I didnt play the game for so long was very simple. the game was alpha and early access. I was waiting for the full release.

i enjoy the game as it is.. i started playing when A16 was the current alpha and went through a small period of hating on the game after that.. devs made some questionable changes but they have mostly redeemed themselves in my eyes and have certainly improved the game since i started playing. there is old stuff i will always miss but it's never coming back so it is what it is.. the game as of now is pretty good. make of that what you will

only u can say, if it is worth it or not.

lootable zombies are just annoying - there is SO MUCH stuff u can loot...
sometimes zombies drop a backpack with loot - especially at bloodmoon
(with good/better) loot and not just crap.

the big wolves: they aint invincible - avoid them until you get a "good" weapon.

and the new "random generated maps" are great - with really nice towns and pois.

electric: auto-turrets, lightnings, etc.

vehicles: 4x4 truck, bicycle, gyrocopter...

and tons of mods...

A16+ kids won't understand how different the game was before that. If you ever get bored, give A15 a try. It's ugly looking in comparison and lack lots of quality-of-life-features, but it's (almost) like a different game.

kids? mate i'm almost 40 lol.. i've also tried A15 to get some back then impossible to get achievements. it wasn't all that much different to a16 aside from the lacking of content.

Definitely worth getting back into graphically it hasn't done anything major but the overall content and survival aspect is worth it, especially if youre will to install some mods.

Is that why you don't know common memes?

I bet it also depends somewhat on playstyle to notice the differences, in any case, they are immense. That's why it's an integral part of this forum that people all the time point out that they're unhappy with the changes the game underwent.

The wolves with the glowy eyes? I think most players are okay with them being in the game. This is the first real complaint I’ve heard about them since….2021. ;-)

"and the reason I didnt play the game for so long was very simple. the game was alpha and early access."

why is that a reason?
i play since a15 (?) and had never gamebreaking bugs.
many people are very happy that the game is getting better and better and better.
why should they ever leave alpha^^

no, its the overall state of the game, that shocked me 2 years ago. you may not like, what I say, but Im free to do so and I dont insult anyone. I just wanna point out that 7D2D took a route I dont like and I didnt need 2000 hours to play to see that.
