Grind via low book drop rate. Game is now a chore.
While i understand a slight reduction to the previous rate, this is ridiculous. I am purely dependent on rewards, loot, and trader weapons. I'm going to be on a bike until day 21 at this point. Some have said it's just bad luck, but ♥♥♥♥ that noise. I've done 10 quests and gotten 1 book box. Luckily they still offer 500 gunpowder and bike in the tier 1 quests or i would be walking to horde night with stone weapons, but pipe bombs might not happen in which case it's a wipe. Stone weapons and a pipe mg with 180 rounds ain't getting through even a day 7 horde.

Strange how they spent a year and a half working on this new system and then nerf the very thing they worked "hard" on just a few days after launch. With changes this soon it doesn't seem like a flushed out concept, but a way to make people play much longer for the exact same experience. I mean "tier 6" quests are just tier 5 POI's with more zombies. What the ♥♥♥♥?!?! No bandits, simple and sometimes just plain bad cosmetic changes (cars look like they are from a 20 year old game), no new weapons or armor, no new zombies, and no changes in zombie abilities or pathing ai to make them more difficult to take on during hordes or infested POI's.

Lady luck has become the dirty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of this game. I'm not rolling the dice to see if I'm going to have fun or be frustrated and bored. It's a game that allowed players to make it as hard or as easy as I they decide, but that decision is now out of our hands. I hope the game finds its footing because I do like the realism that the new system brings, but after a year and a half of waiting this seems like a let down. Give us something to progress for, not just make the overall experience take longer. At least the last update added new late game items, like the robot and vehicle upgrades, to make the more grindy aspects of the game less of a chore. New items now are just to supplement the mechanics that were changed.

Maybe some people see this as progress, but I see the same finish line that's just set further away.

You have to finish 6 or 8 Quests from the same trader. Then you got a special reward, if you want you can choose the bike. Now you can get the quest that bring you to the next trader.
I got my bike from the trader at day 6.

Its a good thing that your way to build up your character and equiptment is a bit longer and stony.

About the progress. Yea they need long. But they are a small studio and say what you want but the game gets better and better. Long way and long time but it gets better.

I get what you mean. I had a game going recently... even in A20... where 'luck' was NOT dropping magazines worth a beans. Just kept getting the same ones again and again. And, that's only when it wasn't just dam paper instead. Some play-thru's I've finished up magazine sets left and right while others I'm lucky if I can finish up ONE magazine set. And, part of the problem is how magazines are locked behind loot stage and game stage. If you don't 'luck' out and get tier 1 magazines completed before getting to tier 2 loot stage, you're just SOL for those tier 1 magazines a lot of times. And, then... once you get a high enough loot / game stage... you're lucky to get any magazines at all. This has obviously changed up a bit in A21 but, I suspect there is still 'some' similar issues going to be a problem in that regard. Hopefully, they'll get it ironed out in some future updates. Nothing worse than going to late game still missing half the perks you want.

Sounds like it's OPs one of the first alphas. Fiddling with stuff and scrapping one system for the new "this time it's final version" one is the name of the game TFP is 'playing'. Given the development history, I wouldn't be surprised that we had overhaul of whole progression system in 2-3 alphas down the line...

The magazine drop rate was too high. Getting 9 mags for every quest and getting 2-9 mags in every newsstand or mail box was too high. Now I'm getting offered 1 mag reward for 8 quests with 2-3 mags in the box and around 3 mags for every 10 mailboxes/newsstands. They over corrected too much. A 50% reduction would have been a nice challenge, an 80-90% reduction makes the grind too much. I know they said the adjustment was much smaller but I did a new start after the patch to try it out and the grind feels oppressive instead of challenging now. And they are still having the starting spawnpoint 3.7 km from the first trader, this needs adjustment as well.

I'm done with this game, but I'm not going to say it wasn't worth it. It was fun, but this game is going nowhere. This is a half baked concept from a half baked studio who has clearly given up on this project. The stuff in this update is unimpressive and clearly didn't spend very much of the last 18 months working on it. Probably just do the George RR Martin thing where they say they are hard at work, but are more likely spending the money on trying and failing to bang strippers. Then cram all that "work" into a few months just to fart out this product that they have to re-balance instantly because they didn't actually try.

There are other games to play. If you want to stick with the Fun Pimps it's your call, but don't let the them slide or make excuses for them. Loyalty is a one way street. They don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about you because they already got your money.

7D2D is no longer a "Zombie Survival" RPG, but a walking (because stamina) - reading (*) - Walking, simulator.

(*) I know if I want to learn more about a skill I sure as heck don't go to the library or a bookstore - but start ransacking my neighbor's mailboxes. (Yes this was stolen)

stone weapons can totally take on a day 7 horde if on default settings 180 rounds is a solid amount melee most of time pulling out firearm for use on the cops or spiders or dogs

but na bro i cant just afk spray all night game broken...also no pipe bomb means you wipe lmao weak
like ok maybe i think im dubm but actually have a good build...because like the zombies break less than 5 blocks on average the pit may get deeper as cops and demos explode but other than that i hold my ground and swing my club or bat most of the night getting head caps all night long

I don't play default dude and I die I restart. I'm not putting 60 hours on a map to get to endgame either. If you like the slow grind, that's fine. I don't. My problem is there is not really anyway to control how long it takes anymore. As I stated above, the attraction of the game was how you can tailor the experience for yourself. Now it's their way or the highway. I'm choosing the highway.

Got to love forums! Stay loyal to a game! When you own a house chores aren't as fun. This game was supposed to be fun not a chore, but thanks for recognizing that it is a chore, even if you were just trying to be condescending.

the good thing is, A20 still exist and stay exist. One of the 7D2D problem is, that every new itteration of that game called alpha. For me the last few alphas are a finished product (not perfect). Other devs would take it as final. There is no point you get to, where you can´t get further, cause there are something not already implement.
So you can just choose your favorit itteration of the game and play it further. Or use one of the mods for it. Or just get ranted and don´t try to adjust your gameplay to fit with the current state of the game. The current experimental isn´t here to change one of the system. Only to find bugs, glitches, tech-problems and a little balancing. But the water and magazine system doesn´t change before A22 (when everything get new).

I like the realism that the new system offers. I don't have issues with water, so understand the freakout that's going on there. The book system before update was way too easy because I shouldn't be able to craft a level 5 steel club at day 13. Now it seems like its probably a day 50 and there seems to be no way to speed that up. It's my opinion on this alpha, but it doesn't seem like they checked game balance before launch. That is not a good sign of things to come.

Don't complain at a person who spent their money on a product that has is diminishing in its returns or tell them just play an older version. This thread was aimed at progression balance of this current update which we used to be able to control in settings. That choice is what made the game unique and gave it the longevity that it has enjoyed. Now if you don't like it you can kiss Fun Pimps ass and hope they don't just ♥♥♥♥ in your face.

They wanted to make the game take longer, so rather then add late game content to stretch the experience, they just made the content that the game has had for 2 and a half years take longer.

Thanks, but no thanks.

You need to read the entire post. We are talking about the recent update to A21 and discussed how much we were getting before as being a monsoon and now, post "fix", its a desert.

Yet another chuckle-head bringing nothing to the discussion, but felt like posting anyway. No wonder you like the grind.
