We could try merging them all into one big, unsortable, unsectioned mega thread where every conversation will come to an immediate end as any thoughts get lost in pages and pages of conversation everyone else stopped reading because it's pages and pages of disjointed "same topic" posts.
I did this recently with all of the "Steam Workshop" posts. Did it help? Not really. Even pinned the thread, and people are too lazy to go look before starting another trash thread wasting space on the forum.
Truly the answer is for people to do the research, and then post into existing current threads instead of just hitting forum, and then "Create Post" every time a thought enters their head. Long gone are the days where people actually took time to look into a subject before spouting text on the internet.
But having merged mega-topics let's me at least notice the few and far between original thoughts inbetween.
And a long as people can't be motivated to use the search functionality, merging helps a lot with cluttering.
I don't mean to extend this thread that should be elsewhere but I did want to mention that there are a lot of forums that I'm in that people complain about "necro-posting" because someone did look up their topic and added a question/comment to an old thread. Sometimes you just can't win. :)
Anyway - if you think human behavior is gonna change, you crazy. People go to a forum or site (here, /r, google... ) and they type in a question seeking an answer. Why? Who knows. Maybe they think they'll get an answer quicker and easier than say... digging through the rubble.
The steam search is pretty easy to use though, so I agree with you there. But you're trying to dry the ocean with a mop. Don't let it get to ya so much.
