Boats and Fishing
I love the game, been playing since they first came out. I am still hoping they add maybe fishing, even boats (rowboats) to the game, i have made a few bases in the water and it can be a pain all the time to swim to your base, especially when having a 4x4 full of loot and i have to make several trips.

I think fishing would be good also, be new foods to add with it also.

Build a bridge. Or dig a tunnel under the water. I have several bridges and tunnels to speed up driving.

You could get gyrocopter to get to base without swimming

i have done those, i should have said that it would be cool to have boats in the game

fishing is probably completely out of the question....the devs have been moving steadily in the direction of LESS access to food and water for quite a while. Fishing, no matter how restrictive, would move in the opposite direction.

i would like boats too but care for what you wish because you will probably also get swimming zombies with that update , lol

It would give Living Off The Land another potential use, having it benefit a new fishing skill as well as farming. That way, it'd have more utility as a perk. The benefits could range from increased catch chance to the ability to get yourself possibly larger, rarer fish used in more complex cooking recipes.

I'm not saying it couldn't be done. I'm not saying it couldn't be easily rolled into existing systems. I'm not even saying I'm against it (I'm not, I think fishing would be neat, if unnecessary). All I'm saying is the devs are on a "scarcity crusade" and are actively, vigorously changing things to make food, water, and several resources MORE scarce (they've been moving this way for quite a while, and several of the upcoming changes in the unstable branches show it's not ending anytime soon). No matter how cool or immersive or easy to implement (or otherwise) it would be, it goes against the direction the devs are hyper focused on atm.

You made bases...in the water? How? They "fixed" the water after I think Alpha 11 so we couldn't build lake houses any more.

the zombies already swim last i knew, unless it was taken out. i haven't built a water base in some time now, but i have been thinking about it.

you know what, adding fishing seems like a great idea. boat/rafts, fishing rods (wooden, metal, Professional) the better the fishing rod, the better the durability and catches.
fishing boats (boats where you can fish more effectively) fishing mods (better baits, better line, better hook) new food recipes. for fishes: zombie fish (poisonous but can be scrapped for rotting flesh), salmon, trout, cod, squid, crab..., you can fish also scrap and why not small boxes. fishing traps as well

but i think fishes should be very scarce (even if meat is very easy to get), it can take a while till you fish something. but adding points in a skill should increase the fish rate. maybe the fishes should be rendered like animals in water. and some fishes are agressive. maybe an ocean biome might be added

Oh no, don't get me wrong I never thought you were against it or anything like that. Iirc the devs said animal husbandry is out of the question as well, which is... strange.

They probably make water bases the same way I make bridges; dive to the bottom of the river / lake and put in blocks from the bottom to the top of the water to make support pillars and build from there.
