Favorite blocks for melee?
I was curious what blocks people liked and why for using melee weapons?

The spear seems easy to work with...so you can be picky about using blocks you cant fall through, or block Cop vomit.

The horizontal swinging power attack weapons tend to be difficult to use without damaging blocks or ending up with zombies crawling through etc.

Anyone find some nice blocks/setups they like to use?

Wood hatches. Place them in doorways to bottleneck zombies and you can use whatever melee weapon you like.

But you have to pair them up with some block in the upper part, or zombies will crawl through. What you're describing was barely warking in A20.

It's indeed tricky when it comes to using melee (against blood moon I assume), best I would suggest is a shutter on the side of the main door assuming you have a door), maybe coupled with a broken window (not sure if it prevents any more crouching zombies to get through though).

Or maybe a pillar rotated on the side, so there is some height, but not enough to prevent you from hitting with your melee weapon.

Sideway stairs work pretty well, and have a large gap between the beams. They also let you repair blocks behind them.

In some POIs, yes that's true. Some are almost open-air (weigh station and fiery farms) so clearly this wouldn't work. In this situation, you can just place down two blocks and upgrade the top one you're standing on. Any zombies that approach, just wail on their head from above while making sure to repair your block from time to time.

However, the vast majority (not all) have doorways just big enough for you to run through which is more than enough to place a hatch down. I have very rarely seen zombies try to crawl over the hatches to reach me, they often just gather around to try and break it down.

I can assure you this strategy still works in A21. I can clear infested T5 POIs just fine doing it.

I second this method.

Cleared many tier 5 POIs using a wooden hatch in the doorway. The trick is to plan ahead. Place a hatch before you hit one of those god awful triggers. You don't want to fiddle with the placement and rotation, while you got a sizable hoard on your tail.

I recently found out about a (at least since I last played) new block called the scaffolding ladder thanks to a random youtube video. I think I'd been looking up zombie fort designs.

I fully intend to enjoy them for as long as they can last as it seems they may be just a little bit "too good" for what they are. It's rare I hear about these things in this game before they get rebalanced.

There's a farm somewhere, with a red metal pipe type fence, 4 horizontal bars running the perimeter.
It consist of two different block shapes, 3 blocks high. Top and bottom blocks are a thin pipe across the middle of one face of the cube. Middle block is 2 thin pipes across the edges of one face of the cube. Kind like this...

Only more evenly space gaps. Zombies can't crawl through the gaps, lots of clear space for those heavy attacks to the head.
In frame shape menu I think they're named something 0.025

Edit to add Pillar 0.025m Middle and Pillar 0.025m Double

Yep. Always place with the open area of the block towards you. It has "ladder" in the name for a reason.

I like the double poles turned sideways like an = sign. Everything except maybe snakes will never fit through them and it's wide enough to throw explodables. I'm trying some turned the normal up and down direction for the bottom layer of my horde base. Don't know if a random night snake will get me. :cozybethesda:
