Helmet Mod that allows you to Drink Murky Water should have a downside.
There should be some kind of drawback to using it. I was thinking maybe chance for a permanent mutation. Some mutations could be good, some could be very, very bad. I mean lets keep to the logic that the world is so polluted we cannot take water from a source and boil it. So if you circumvent that with the helmet mod you should be rolling the dice.

Could put in tons of neat oddball mutations like:

1: You now periodically emit a low level hum drawing zombies to you.

2: Every now and then your metabolism skyrockets. This allows you to swing/run extremely fast but your food and water will drain 1 per second.

3: You are now a bullet sponge. If you are hit by gunfire you can reuse the bullet(s) you were hit with.

4: You have developed gills, you can no longer breathe air! Best find some water!

5: You are still the same size but your mass as greatly increased. You will go 75% slower and due to your weight only a full sized vehicle can support you as transportation.

6: You emit waves of radiation. All zombies around you become the irradiated versions.

7: You now really do have an iron gut, you can consume any type of edible without getting sick.

8: You have grown a third limb, you now get 3 more slots on your hotbar.

Anyhow, just a passing thought while I am eating lunch. :)

It's been a while since I used it, but I believe that it already prevents you from getting the bonuses from drinks like red tea, ect.

I think the game you're looking for is called "Fallout"!

I think most players given the option to roll dice on the mod will simply go nah scrap or trader trash sell, its why most wont eat a Shammie sammie, 12% is a real low chance but if you roll it it will wreck your in game day.

I have not seen the issue of Red Tea not working properly with the mod installed, least I still see the icon show up and it saying my Gastro is more efficient.

Well, when it comes to the Sham Sandwich, if you have any Vitamins you can chomp on those sandwiches without fear for a few minutes. Also, IIRC, Sham Sandwiches later go into the recipe for Antibiotics...

For me the downside of the helmet mod filter was that by the time I found one I had a veritable eff ton of drinks and a dew collector. Gotta have something to do at night anyways, might as well be food and drinks with buffs. 😆

I really wish more games utilized stuff with random mutation type things. Especially games of these types of fallout/zombie style survival games.
Where you could just go completely off the wall with different ideas.
Granted that being said, I think you'd have to have a dedicated team of developers to actually make something like that super viable. Cause it would probably require a lot of hotfixes once they actually came out with an update of that sort, as there are always the unforeseen things that can happen from stuff of that nature.
But love the idea, would absolutely be thrilled if they did add something like that in the future.

IIRC eating a Sham sam will still take off 5 hp even with a vitamin, and eating a vitamin will drain water and dehydrate you.
My point is if the water filter mod had a chance to mutate you most players will go nope.

Having the water purifier helmet mod on your helmet stops you from being able to get benefits from drinking (other than hydration)?

The downside is that it takes mod slot you could have used for something else. If you hate the mod dont use it. If they make it have some negative effect just take it out of the game.

It already has a very limited use in early game or for topping off your water which isn't needed after a few days and you have water taken care of. Before this Alpha I had never even used it, what you are suggesting will put it back into the never use category.

Probably what needs nerfed is being able to preload a ton of water using that at some infinite water source but I personally don't waste my time doing that.

New Fallout perks just dropped

The down side is that murky water gives half the hydration of clean water so you need to drink twice as much.

Yeah, this.
The limiting factor to that "cheese" is the patience for dipping your hand to drink repeatedly for maybe 5-15 minutes.

I tried recently to see if there was some upper limit for stacking water points like that, but once again I grew bored before I reached it (if a limit exists). The amount I stocked up on, tho, lasted about 1.5 real-time hours before thirst meter started to drop again. That was with a lot of mining, running, tree chopping, some combat etc.

Well, that doesn't matter when you have an endless supply of water in a single bucket.

I just tried this - had it on and drank bottled drinks - red tea and coffee both continued to supposedly give the benefits they have. At least, the little stomach and coffee cup icon + stated time left appeared, indicating they were working.

So I don't think that "limit" exists anymore.

Also, should be noted that I'm pretty sure you could "stack" thirst meter points with crafted/bottled drinks too, just drink over and over, it's just those cost a lot of resources to make enough to do that to any great extent, vs. "free" head filter.
