Machete seems too weak compared to the Hunting Knife.
I have a level 3 Hunting Knife which does 39 damage for a power attack, while the level 2 Machete does 42 damage. Except the knife has more than half the stamina cost per power attack than the Machete, which means not only does the knife attack faster, it does it at a cheaper stamina cost too, and does practically equal damage. The only thing the machete is good for is block damage, which makes it seem like a waste of a tier 3 weapon, at least to my perspective. The Machete costs 19 stamina per swing, while the Knife costs only 8. Knife has more attacks per minute too - and you can spam power attacks without running out of stamina using the knife, with just level 4 Deep Cuts because you get refunded enough stamina to swing 3 more times after each melee kill you get. Thoughts?

Is a crafted Machete or a found one?

Because I think that the non-crafted one have variable stats, so there are good ones and bad ones. I always remember when JaWoodle finally found the T6 steel knuckles in the fist only 2 series... only for it to be worse than their T5.

Not sure about the crafted ones. Never craft more to check.

I'm not sure if the machete has also some kind of "area effect" with the swing, meaning that you could hit multiple targets more easily. If that's the case, with buffed up Deep Cuts, you also get multiple bleeding effects on each glancing blow.

I crafted this Machete, and found the Knife. So it's possible I found a very good Knife.

I was kind of surprised the machete didn't get more of a buff since all the other top tier weapons did. Or maybe I'm mistaken.

Yeah, that sounds like a very possible explanation.
In A20 happened several times, both having really good ones and finding terrible ones.

I have found that crafted weapons and armour do have variable stats. I crafted 3 hunting rifles, 2 had a effective range of 80 and 1 was 59. Also the damage varied a small amount.

Oh, thanks for the confirmation!
Also hunting knife can knock down zombies with a power atack to the head, while machetes can not.

I prefer the stabbing motion of the knife. The machete does a slashing motion that can get deflected easier. Better for fighting multiple targets, but for stealth kills and tight spaces the hunting knife is easier to control cause the power attack is a straight stab.
But it's kind of nice that there is a variety of bladed weapons. Kind of like the compound crossbow and the compound bow. The compound bow doesn't hit quite as hard and it's harder to aim, but it shoots a lot faster than the compound crossbow.

mechanics, mechanics, mechanics..... The new focus of a zombie survival game. Personally I wish all the stat data was hidden and you just figured out what you like as you play.
Sure I am in the minority though. gotta strive for those higher numbers...

I think there needs to be tier 4 weapons that are the definitive versions of everything, otherwise steel tier is pretty lackluster.
Or maybe just rebalance the steel tier?

That's the boring way out lol, the endgame content right now is pretty low and getting tier 6 steel everything doesn't take long. I'd like to see one more tier at least. Some tools have motor tier after all. It'd be so cool if there were rare tier 4 weapons that would be exciting to find, and require the top crafting skills possible to get otherwise if they're able to be crafted at all.
Well, firearms do have a tier 4 already, but realistically, it would be MUCH more work for the devs to add a new Tier, than to rebalance the existing one.

What you wish to do and what you should do, are often very different. :2016imnotcrying:

I did some testing with all the IronVSsteel tier melee weapons, comparing lvl6-iron VS lvl1-steel VS lvl6-steel.
For slightly better consistency I first grabbed several of each, then compared and kept only the best of each...though the variance was generally pretty small for most.

Most of the weapons had a small hit to stamina when changing to steel, except the knives where the hit to stamina was huge.
Most of the weapons had the same/similar swing speed, except the knives where the steel was significantly slower.
Most of the weapons had a significant PowerAttack damage increase from lvl6-iron to lvl1-steel, then a similar increase from lvl1-steel to lvl6-steel...except the clubs which had a very small increase, and the knives which had a decrease in damage.

It also appears to be true that the machete doesn't knock-down enemies with power-attacks while the HuntingKnife and most other melee weapons do.

Even comparing lvl6 VS lvl6 (iron to steel) the knives only gain about 9damage to their power attack, while losing significant speed, stamina and knockdown.

I didn't really test if the wide swing of the machete hits multiple targets, because the short-ish range often means getting close enough to hit multiple targets also gets you hit by one or more of them...and it doesn't knock them down like the sledge or most other weapons.

I hope this is a glitch/oversight and I hope it gets fixed soon (because I just started a fresh playthrough yesterday that focuses on knives).

I can confirm the Machete is the worst end game melee weapon by a long shot and no the Stun baton is great. They could sincerely buff the machete because it simply not doing enough.
