Anyone sticking with Alpha 20 for now?
Got a nice base and I don't feel like restarting yet. So much to do and explore. I've heard they have ramped up the difficulty as well made some major changes.

Going to wait a bit until more bug fixes arrive.

Nah. For all the well-deserved criticism, I still think A21 is far better than its predecessor. A20 was ridiculously easy.

I agree it's too easy towards the end although the abundance of supply's was nice when your building a large base from scratch. I'm just not quite ready to start over yet.

I would have left 20 just for the nicer aesthetics of 21. It's a significant visual upgrade. I'm getting great performance also.

I have multiple games going. One in Alpha 20 with Undead Legacy. The rest are in Alpha 21

I agree 100%

Been running a server since 2014-15ish, i think since A8, and we always had a problem with players playing for a week then being done with the game. Since we have been on A21 we have had many players stay longer as they aren't getting to End Game very early and then get bored with it after.

I'm still surprised how much of an improvement all the new assets seem to have made (and I think a few decorative item LODs were improved/lengthened). I wasn't expecting it to make such a noticeable difference, but A21 looks pretty darn nice.

The additional zombie difficulty from their higher debuff+damage moreso than bullet-sponge-ness is also a surprisingly welcome change to me.

I am still looking for ways to balance the magazine system and I'd like to be able to reuse jars by modifying the XML like the devs promised would be easy...but it doesn't appear to work quite like they claimed. :(

I have a backup of my A20, with my last game ready to keep playing.
But, I'm having lots of fun with A21, so probably will not come back to A20.

Or maybe will give it a go and play a week more or so, last chance to get the damn steel knuckles. Maybe someday.

I'm liking A21 so far, about 7 hours into a solo game. The new models / textures look great & the lighting effects are very good (running at near max settings).

I struggled a lil to get enough food and water at first but that added a nice bit of desperation that added to a sense of immersion. I'm using the water filter head gear mod for once as well, and it'll probably stay needed given that clean water is slower to make and harder to come by.

The magazine skill system seems like it'll probably need some re-working but I haven't played enough to really know what how it affects a run.

I also really appreciate the ability to shoot through damaged doors. A21 feels like a big step in the right direction, even if all the issues haven't been ironed out. I still haven't run into mercenaries yet (did that make it in?) but I'm on a pre-gen world (8K) which might not even have them

The water changes can burn in hell. Give me back my jars. It does not make sense and there were easier ways to fix that problem that did not require me to build some ridiculous structure to get water bottles that cease existing on use. Oof. This game has end-game issues and now it's got this ridiculous water change. I'll just go play some other game and see if the next major patch changes this. If it doesn't... maybe I just not come back at all. Not like FP will miss me.

finish your save when you can and then install A21
the water and skills system change was pointless but arent the end of the world and they are the only bad things of this update
theres tons of small changes that make up for them
just the new textures and the dismemberment finally working for all zombies make A21 worth installing

Yeah I am staying with the 20.7 The 21 is just a remake over of the 15/16 version in many ways, including rankings and tier mags. So it's not a new thing for me, just a old thing stamped new. It's over rated. With over a thousand hours in, it isn't that appealing to me. I am not sure why some say the 21 is harder. I keep seeing most players talking how easy it is. I myself found it easy, but also very, very annoying. because I don't need a trader to dictate to me how to explore the map and find POI when I had been a urban explorer for real. So I have no need to camp and store squat, just waiting for the fight to come to me. When I always go looking for it. There for the system is useless to me, and gets in my way.
I'll check back on it once a useful update comes in to play.

A21 and beyond. I cannot go back to A20. A21 has so much more to offer and the progression feels rewarding.
Skarth Jul 4, 2023 @ 6:34pm
A21 slows progression down a lot and requires trader or looting interaction, you can't just go into the wilderness and level/grind/exp up everything anymore like A20.

For those lacking water, you need to loot new loot packages (ice machines have a LOT of water in them)
