I need duct tape!
Now that I cant bottle water to make glue to make duct tape. im always short on glue and duct tape. Beyond making a field of dew collecters how do I realistically get more duct tape?

I have 8 water collectors now on day 86, which is enough for glue, beer, vegetable stew coffee, and herbal tablets combined, and a growing surplus of water in a crate.

If 15 seconds collecting water out 8 dew collectors once per day is too much effort I suggest mods or just cheating.

You go to a trader who all sell ductape now for like 25 dukes each which is nothing.
Strip down 2-3 cars and sell the parts and you can buy 50 duct tapes or so every few days.

mans over here trying to act like 8 collectors for 1 person isnt excessive.
My crew of 3 would need 24 by this math.

Yah, I dont want an orchard of dew collectors. I would LOVE to utilize the pond nearby and use the water thats just setting there.

Dew collectors also generate activity heat. Said 24 farm would be under permeant "blood moon level" siege.

You loot every single loot container, including all trash, vs just the crates and better containers.

...I had lots of glue after a while (100% loot, no Quests, no buying), at least in terms of basic crafting needs (not industrial sized project needs), and enough excess looted water to make some glue as well.

...but if you don't like looting taking up most of your time for the first week or three, or use 50% loot perhaps - or are simply impatient - then yeah ... imo I'm afraid buying duct tape whenever available, more than a couple dew collectors, or cheating and/or modding the game (you can reduce time for collectors to spawn water, among other things) is about it, in A21.

This is exactly what I've been trying to point out. Everyone just knee jerk reacts to the sustenance aspect, but its just completely wrecked production. RIP repair kits I guess?

It's pretty evident the devs don't care and are going to continue reducing this game into some weird hybrid nobody wants.

Right, the solution to your problem isn't what you are looking for. Is there no helping you or do you just want people to sit down and cry with you? Good grief...

Theres nothing wrong with "dont wanting an orchard of Dew-Collectors" - the fact they now are generating heat is speaking for it too. So its not a solution at least. No need to attack it.

i think the one with the trader was a really helpful, becauso duct-Tape wasnt that cheap before if i remeber correctly. To topic: also loot the Trash. I've found plenty of Glue and Tape, more i needed.

I don't know how the water balance is working for multiplayer but in single player it's only an issue for the first 2-3 days. I did 60+ hours in experimental with 4 different starts to try out the new systems and didn't really have a problem. The traders had plenty of water and glue for sale. The drop rate of glue seemed much higher. Once you had a cooking pot there was plenty of murky water dropping and most people know to hit the taco truck for a guaranteed cooking pot. I never had more than 3 dew collectors and always had plenty of water for what I needed.

I didn't notice any increased heat activity with the dew collectors but I didn't build an orchard of them either.

My only real complaint is that the skill mags only seem to take a vague interest in what I skills I put points into. I had far more knife books than anything else and never put a point into it. When experimental first dropped you were inundated with too many mags, sometimes upwards of 12 per newspaper container. They over corrected a bit too much so now I'll get 0-2 but mostly paper. If they'd tie the mags a little closer to where I have points invested and slightly increased mag drops it would be decent for solo players.

Only if you all use brawling combat style and go through 15 beers a day like I do. Otherwise you need a lot less.

I already suggested mods or cheating for that. Bottled clear water from lakes isn't in the vanilla game though. Just walk by the lake and open cm and give yourself water.

I have ONE dew collector... but, I loot every bottle of murky water and loot every bit of trash that could possibly contain glue, and I have NEVER been short of, either water to make glue (just leave 60 jars of murky cooking when you head out to a POI) or looted glue! I had to re-evaluate and change my looting style, but it's working fine. *Started fresh for b323, at level 51 right now and doing fine*

Water costs 120, each ductape 40. Just need to buy more often from traders at the beginning

Not if you build it underground away from the base. The collector only checks for a block directly over it up to I think 7 blocks. Build it underground, poke a hole in the ceiling, profit.

Buy all the glue from your traders and then go out and bash some tents. Buy all their tape too if you're heavy in the pocket. Loot garages, construction sites, destroyed chem stations, destroyed workbenches, toolboxes, backpacks & trash like a madman if you wanna do it cheap.
Josh Jul 3, 2023 @ 9:04am
The dew collector was a terrible idea only because it became the only way to obtain water aside from boiling murky water or buying it. With enough people on a server even those methods are limited if everyone else is out hunting for water at traders.

Some ideas: Craft your own containers to boil water in to prevent loot and storage units from being filled with endless amounts of jars and cans. Stacking the water in the DC higher than 1 or add more slots.
