I see the log as being more of a convenience item. Instead of having to put 100 plank in a campfire, you can just put 10 logs (which is much less clicking). So I think logs are meant to be more a convenient fuel. As for the 1 item that requires it (the forge IIRC), I'd say it's nice way to introduce the item to the player.
Logs used to be what you got from trees, then they removed them to cut back on item clutter, and simplify recipes by making all forms of wood into one resource. So its just redundant and backwards for them to go and re-add the item into crafting.
Also, its super easy to split a stack of planks for fuel. If anything, crafting a log as fuel is more work overall.
I've said this before on other posts, so I will keep it short here. But I think its super gross for both devs and fans to toss smaller issues aside to the modders. So many legit issues get brushed off because "other people could add/remove it" when its the devs job to make the product. They get payed for it, they should put the work in.
That being said, obviously there are some changes where it should be left to modders. This particular issue is not something I would demand be changed. Its was more an observation on the mindset of the devs, and their poor implementation of changes and features.
ok so you can either change the recipe yourself or live with it. you don't need a modder or any special programs. you open a file and change the wording in one line. it's really that simple
Easy... But annoying. And... I didn't miss your point, I just consider it moot. Has me wondering how irate someone can be to go on a rant about an insignificant item, in a game, that he's only gonna have to craft 2... maybe 3 copies in a typical playthrough. smh.
