Wood Logs
Who's the genius that decided to make it so you get planks from cutting trees, but have to craft said planks back into a log for crafting one of the workstations? Just give us logs from trees, and planks from logs. Or just use planks for the recipe! Why even make logs a thing for seemingly a single item?
I am just so baffled by this. Normally I would think its funny, but its a perfect example of TFP's short sighted, backwards thinking, and all their unnecessary changes/additions. There was no reason to change the recipe, yet they did. It adds nothing, and makes no sense.

I didn't mean for this to turn into a rant about the devs, but they really get under my skin with how big their ego's can be, while actively having such horrible game direction and community interactions.

I'd be surprised if we ever get logs from trees. We used to get iron ore from mining and now we get straight up iron.

I see the log as being more of a convenience item. Instead of having to put 100 plank in a campfire, you can just put 10 logs (which is much less clicking). So I think logs are meant to be more a convenient fuel. As for the 1 item that requires it (the forge IIRC), I'd say it's nice way to introduce the item to the player.

the devs gave us a game that could be easily modded for a reason. they made the game in their vision but gave us the ability to edit most of the game via XML files. you could change the recipe to reflect your take on realism. hell you can make it so 5 feathers and 10 rocks makes a gyrocopter if you so wish. there's tons of stuff that annoys me about every release since i've owned the game but i took it upon myself to learn the XML files so i could change things to suit how i want the game to play.

I think you are missing my point. Its not about adding logs, rather how its a poorly implemented and unnecessary item.
Logs used to be what you got from trees, then they removed them to cut back on item clutter, and simplify recipes by making all forms of wood into one resource. So its just redundant and backwards for them to go and re-add the item into crafting.
Also, its super easy to split a stack of planks for fuel. If anything, crafting a log as fuel is more work overall.

I've said this before on other posts, so I will keep it short here. But I think its super gross for both devs and fans to toss smaller issues aside to the modders. So many legit issues get brushed off because "other people could add/remove it" when its the devs job to make the product. They get payed for it, they should put the work in.
That being said, obviously there are some changes where it should be left to modders. This particular issue is not something I would demand be changed. Its was more an observation on the mindset of the devs, and their poor implementation of changes and features.

ok so you can either change the recipe yourself or live with it. you don't need a modder or any special programs. you open a file and change the wording in one line. it's really that simple

Easy... But annoying. And... I didn't miss your point, I just consider it moot. Has me wondering how irate someone can be to go on a rant about an insignificant item, in a game, that he's only gonna have to craft 2... maybe 3 copies in a typical playthrough. smh.

Go play Wurm if you want to get felled tree, then cut into logs, then cut into planks, sticks and wood scrap.

so i have to say, i hate most of the changes but that was a nice one. The new Forge Model has this Log in it. so you craft it and its there, you can see it. i liked that little detail
