Lighting seems really messed up.
Lighting seems really bad.
Like, nice in some ways, but when looking down a hole, that looks well lit, I jump in and now it is pitch black and the zombies beat me to death.

Bug?

Any fix?

Lesson learned. Never jump into a hole.

Yes, the lightning is not very ... functional now. You can up the brightness option up to 70-80 and it will remove the pitch black areas. During daytime it might feel too bright, tho.

It should be considered a bug in my opinion... I hope they'll fix it.

The lighting is kinda realistic, dark room is dark. Should technically light up after awhile since spending some time in the dark ur eyes adjust a bit. I feel like they should just add some kinda real time stuff. I know UE5 has lots of options to do this but no idea unity. Be cool if they just transfered everything to UE5

I had that thought too that they've made some kind of eye adjusting to light/darkness, yet somethimes i take 1 step forward and it becomes pitch blackness, then i take 1 step back and i can see again. Lightning in buildings is pretty broken. The shadows are amazing, btw. Seeing zombies coming out at you from dark corners is pure horror. Like it.

I've always prioritised the flashlight helmet mod and can't remember ever making it to the first horde night without one.

Its backwards, has been since they added it a few alpha's ago. Should be "dark" when you enter and gradually lighten up as you adjust.

Its so much worse now, but at least they haven't removed the brightness option. Yet anyway.

I've just set up base in a poi, but this reminded me of a neat little thing I found in there. There's a hole in the basement wall, just leading to a tiny dug-out area where a couple zombies spawned. If you enter that dug-out area, it becomes really bright, and when you walk back into the basement it becomes dark again. The dug-out doesn't connect to the sky at all, which is hilarious.

Prefer pre Alpha 19 lighting and colours
Thing might be an unpopular opinion but after going back and playing some the old alphas I've got to say the lighting and graphics in some aspects have got a lot worse. Imo the game looks way to colourful and cartoony, the lighting is hit and miss most of the the time looking over saturated. But comparing alpha 20/21 to alpha 18. although its missing the updated hd textures and models, in alpha 18 the graphics are so much more natural looking, not too colourful or dull, same goes with the lighting, the game actually has that eerie post apocalyptic atmosphere feeling to it. there's also some other things that seem to look better in alpha 18 one being distant terrain and the other is the LOD of pois and tree are 100x better than it is in the current alphas.

Just my opinion of course but would be interesting to see of others feel the same

Re: colors, it helps if you turn the color saturation of your monitor down a lot.
I actually agree the colors have become a bit too vibrant/blown out or something for my personal tastes. Hence I reduced color saturation on my TV while playing. Doesn't solve it, but it's at least less garish on my eyes. Making the weather always cloudy/rainy helps too, haha - yes I know most don't want that, I'm just saying. :P

The lighting effects I overall like, although some of the transitions and directional light implementation is lacking.

Yep, i'm with you at this Point. The Lightning and colours destroying the whole ambience atm. (I think its still better than other games)
I also startet some older versions to take a look at some days ago and was almost overwhelmed how nice it takes you to the situation and creating a complete different feeling.

It was same for me, although I've returned to game after a long while meaning to try A21, but forgot to switch the branch and booted up A20 first, thinking exactly this. Even decided to apply nvidia filter to slightly lower the saturation (wasn't slider for that right in the game before? hmm..). After a few mins I realized I haven't switched to experimental. When I booted A21, colors felt already much better than in A20, removed the filter as well, wasn't needed here and I actually didn't expect a change for the better in this matter and the fact that it was that notable switching to one after the other. If I fired up A21 right away, I might not have been that satisfied, tho.

WTF Did They Do to Lighting?
It's awful, my god. It starts raining and the game goes almost completely black. You walk into a house and it gradually gets darker and darker, even if you stand in the same spot right next to a window. I don't get it. Fix your game, please.

The lighting is supposed to replicate how our eyes adjust from being outside in the daylight then entering a darkened room. I am not a big fan of it either, not sure if I need to adapt or is it unadaptable.

absurdly dark
so i havent played this game for a long time but i tried it again recently

the issue i have, is regardless of the building i am in, whether there are gaping holes in the walls or ceilings or any other factor......when i am in a building and it starts to rain, the building gets ridiculously dark, the entire screen almost going completely black

i was in game yesterday, started a mission 10am game time and within moments of being in the building it rained outside and it was akin the the blackest of black nights with zero ambient light at all

obviously i have messed with the graphics settings, turned off bloom and all that stuff but it makes zero difference - it may be an issue with my graphics card (intel arc) or it may just be a new "feature" in the game, anyone else experiencing similar? maybe you do or dont have intel arc graphics?

I'm having the opposite problem. I can barely read the texts when speaking with a trader. And I have my gamma set as instructed.

The new lighting is supposed to mimic how ones eyes have to adjust to the dark when entering a darker area. It is an adjustment, no I haven't, if you're asking.
