Am I the only one who really dislikes 'fog of war' map effect? it's really boring honestly
I like how this game has many biomes and areas of the map to explore, but the map concealing fog of war is just tiresome and terribly boring. I've played other survival games with maps that are fully revealed when you open them, it's much more fun. Especially when you play the game a lot, and you're a vet who understands everything, then the concealed map is a nuisance. It's even more bothersome when trying out online servers because they all have different maps, and the expectation is to explore the ENTIRE map just to see everything. It also seems to be bugged, because solo offline, I've explored my whole map... Log back in a week later, now it's reset and fogged again. ZZzzzzzzz so boring.

Nah. I like not knowing what's over the next hill in advance.
Not boring. Fun.

When I think of "fog of war" I think of the map not showing changes when you're not present so you can't see enemy movements. But anyway. For me, having the map hidden by default means I have to go explore. If it wasn't hidden I could just make a beeline towards destinations I've never seen. The map being hidden by default is my preference. I would imagine there are console commands anyway to expose it?

I very much like the fog of war since I almost exclusively play random maps. The experience of discovery is one of my favorite features of this game.

Nope. I kind of like it depending on the game and what there is in way of exploration. But, almost seems pointless in this game......except that then I know where I have and haven't been.

Edit: Usually, I don't want to know where everything is in advance. This game's map doesn't give away TOO much imo (except ore nodes) and you already seen it when you generated it but, I guess if you don't have eidetic memory (like me) that wouldn't be much of an issue.

I prefer it hidden by default- Exploring is a big part of the fun. It's boring if you know exactly where to go to find what you're after.

Add me to the highly prefer the map not yet explored at the start of the game list.

your using the word fog of war wrong. This is unmapped areas you need to discover. way different then fog of war.

@Banaminati..... uh....that's what we've always called the 'fog of war' since I've been gaming (back in the 80's.) FOW meaning the map is greyed over for all area you haven't explored yet.

Add me too.

And it's convenient as I know when I'm somewhere for the first time. Playing without loot respawn, I like knowing where I've never been in the map so far.

Not quite. In a game like Warcraft, you had black areas you hadn't explored yet, and then you had fogged over areas which you had explored but could no longer see, so things could be going on there but you wouldn't see them. That's the fog of war. Disabling fog of war just prevented those areas from 'fogging over' after you left.

I like FOW but having the option to buy maps from traders would be cool.

I just wish the area uncovered would scale a bit with your visibility. You can see a lot farther flying around in a gryo.

Agree, it's monochrome now, would be nicer to have a soft fade around the edge of the fog, like fog.

I like the system we have. FOW, or whatever you want to call it, makes for exploration. It also makes the placement of your permanent base a matter of faith as much as judgement as you never know what else awaits you out there and how far away it is.

I like fog of war. Would appreciate "partial maps" in loot though.

If FOW is an issue use the just use the "7 Days to Die Map Renderer" and save yourself an image of the map.
