See Block names
Is there any way to see what block is called in the game files while in game? In creative I can guess many of the blocks within a few guesses, but others I cannot. If I see a neat block at a POI and I think "that would look great in my thing I am building" is there a way to figure out what it is?

Well. IMO you should first determine the "group" that block belongs to.

That means you can then serach for it easier in one of the default groups of the build menu. Is it a square? Is it a slope? Is it a rounded block?

After that, you should figure out one of the "keywords" of the name, based on its shape.
For example, if it's a corner, you can filter only the corner blocks in the build UI search bar.

That way IMO it's not so hard to find the exact block (and block name) you're searching for.

What I would do is equip frames or blocks, Hold the cursor over the block you want to use and select the option Copy Shape then look at what it is in the menu. Either way you will have the shape.

^That is what I usually do as well.

Alternately, you can hit F11 while looking at the block in question. This brings up an info panel which includes block name.

You can also grab the Admin Block Tool from creative menu. It has a copy/replace function.

To add, Iirc you can enable Debug Mode and hit F3 to open the debug info panel, then open your inventory (you need your mouse) and tick the 'Fo' box near the top left corner, which brings up the focused block info panel. Aiming it is a bit finicky because it likes to register 'Air' a lot, but it's a more inline-to-active-play method of checking a block name/shape.

Also the admin paintbrush can copy blocks wholesale including painted sides/shape/type.

Wow! I have a lot of hours in this game and that's the first time I've read about this. It doesn't require debug or creative modes which really makes it useful. There are a lot of useful features in the game that just aren't documented anywhere which is extremely annoying. Thanks for the tip.

@seven .....agreed! Hopefully, they plan to make a text file with all these command functions and info that downloads with the game by the time it leaves EA status. I can see them leaving it out for now cuz of how much they maybe changing all this stuff. It's nice we have some pretty knowledgeable players finding these things for us though.
