Why is a swat helmet heavy armor and the army helmet light armor?
ok so yeah I know its a game but this irks me, I mean the army set erks me as a whole because most peaces of the "armor" are either made to resist bullets or are not armor at all but the swat helmet and armory helmet are pretty much the same item.
also I know they are working on a armor update but its really stupid sounding.

The military armor is essentially our everyday wear (minus the helmet). Deploying, going into combat you'll have a vest with side plates (this has changed over the years, Vietnam had a plate in front and in back, 2020 we have a "modular" vest with smaller plates around the abdomen), knee pads (to aid in a particular firing position), elbow pads (same), and other "accoutrements".

You've touched on the 'militarization' of our police. As threats to communities / society increase their firepower, the police respond in kind. (The Cartels operating in Southern California, and along the border have serious firepower, to include AA (although not missiles (TTBOMK) - YET)

Yeah, in real life there isn't much difference between a SWAT and a military helmet. But it's a game, just go with it.

Anyhow - yeah just suspend belief for the sake of enjoyment. Have to separate out the tiers of armor somehow. I'm all for it.

The swat helmet is made out of compressed dogs, the army helmet from compressed cats.

Cats are lighter and more agile, everyone knows this.

Military helmets are made by disgruntled underpaid third world factory workers who skimp on the materials because less materials equals less work needing done, and as a bonus they can sell them for triple the price due to 'space age polymers'.

Swat helmets are made by disgruntled underpaid first world factory workers who are watched over by a team of efficiency engineers who will double the padding to add weight, and then triple the price.

The swat helmet comes from a Lil Tykes Police Cadet halloween costume set. It used to have a face shield made from real plastic, but it was torn off in the apocalypse when little Timmy turned.

The military helmet is a WW1 era German Kaiser helmet, except with the ridiculous spike and huge brass weird thing removed for aesthetic reasons.

Thank you for using the phrase "little Timmy".

Made my night, haven't laughed that hard in years.

Yet no one seems to mind that an AK-47 doesn't fire the same ammo as an M-4 or M60 or Lever action Rifle or Hunting rifle. No one complains that it only uses 3 shotgun parts to make a turret but it takes 15 to make the shotgun sans tripod and motion sensor. :munchies:

This checks out, I own both a dog and a cat and the cat is lighter than the dog. Confirmed.

We don't even have an actual caliber for the rifles... 7.62, ok but what's the lenght?

Actually..... in Real Life.... most military gear IS 'light armor.' And, the reason for that is....we're expected to walk great distances with all this gear in times of combat. Granted, most our military IS mechanized these days but, it's a known fact vehicles break down and you can't always 'get a tow' in time of combat. There is 'Some' specialty armors in the military but, it's mainly just for dealing with explosive removal.

Ofc....Swat gear is more on the 'light' side than 'heavy' also but, the devs needed to make some balance I guess and chose it to be heavy armor class. As was pointed out earlier though....some of these military / swat armors have been getting upgraded over the past couple decades......which is really cool for our soldiers. When I was in the service.....yeah...wasn't anything in my gear that was going to stop a bullet for me. Even the helmets were only meant to 'deflect' a bullet IF it was a grazing shot....not at slightly downward angle straight at the helmet surface......like from a sniper in an upper story window.

The amount of kinetic energy transferred to your helmet (and by default head and neck) from a bullet on a head shot could have consequences as well.

So they could have both helmets but different. However in-game wise Your right tho, they are the same. What they should had done was instead of what they using as a typical military combat helmet passing it off a lightweight when really it isn't. They should had used a military Operator helmet which is light weight. I think the military zombies are wearing this kind of helmet, which would be the correct helmet for light weight if they wanted to go that rout.

Or, just left it with the firemans helmet being light armor and let military helmet be heavy? But, they wanted it to be a set....so all the miltary gear is light and left helmet as 'light' too. It's actually more of a 'medium' armor really. A heavy armor helmet would be like a steel helmet that was somewhat thick enough to stop a bullet....maybe a kevlar lining in it. Now THAT would be 'heavy' armor.

Pretty sure fire gear is actually heavier, weighing 30-40 pounds for just jacket, boots, gloves and helmet. The helmet itself I think is about the same as a combat helmet, weighing 3-4 pounds.

The helmet tiers do seem a little wonky... For light, we have cloth, leather, football helmet, mining helmet, military helmet. Mining & football seem pretty much interchangeable. For heavy, we have scrap, iron, steel, swat with steel & SWAT being the same, only difference being we can't craft SWAT.

I totally forgot that the fire helmet even existed. Not sure why it was removed. And not sure why there are more light helmets, but no "iron" tier to be crafted, it jumps from leather to combat. But it seems armor is being re-worked for A21, so we'll see what happens!
