A suggestion about merchants and cities
When you create a new map, I would like to be able to choose to have cities without merchants or merchants without cities, so you can have a merchant even if you dont have any city. Or not having a merchant in every city.

It would be a good option (along with permadeath). But since TFP seems dead set on making this game more of a trader run simulator than a survival game I doubt we will ever get it.

im sure a mod exists for that. hoping just a simple xml edit.

This has been discussed as an option. The problem will arrive when you are unable to continue the story because you have no traders though.

I do think traders not based in cities should be an option, have them where the individual POI's would go.

Surely you need a story before story progression can be broken?

Yep, and a story has been planned/known since the very beginning. In fact, in a20 and a21 a lot of work towards RWG and POI's was done to support said story when it arrives in the near future. As were some of the changes to currently available trader quests.

I would guess some sort of warning on map creation when you move the cursors around like "warning : if you generate a map without traders you won't be able to do the story missions". Then people who do not plan to play the story anyway can do a map without traders.

From some of the comments I do just want to highlight, they never suggested no trader maps, they want maps with say 10 cities and 5 traders, or the traders not necessarily in the cities. I am surprised the towns/cities number in RWG cannot go higher.

I am playing most times without citys, and trader, right now. Just with as many POI's as the map lets me have.
I am missing the citys, but I like not having traders, just trying to survive on what i find. I think that is a more challenging and fun way of playing it.

Well you could have cities and just ignore traders?
admos Feb 27, 2023 @ 9:13am
You could simply edit the traders to.. wait no, just ignore the traders.
Self-control, maybe?
If you really want, you can remove the inventory and restock option of the traders.
Or you could change their inventory and restock to be a quantity of 1 and something worthless like paper.

Edit:
If you feel like their compound is just taking up space, you can make it destructible or just change it yourself to a specific POI, or just make it blank.

I imagine OP is doing exactly that, but would enjoy having the option to make it more immersive. The same way hardcore players would enjoy having the option for a forced hardcore play through, despite having the self control to start over with out it.

Or in a real world sense, I can drink coffee from a red solo cup, but I rather drink it from a mug.

Ignoring the trader will not burn your fingers though. Lol

Neither would reasonably filling a red solo cup and holding it with a claw grip. :P

If you create a map with maximum size, about half the time it will start with "no trader"
Also, the pregenerated map that is the largest size, has no traders.

Also, I think you can go into the xml files and just delete the traders.
