Chances of updating Unity Engine?
Hi all. I was wondering what are the chances of the devs upgrading this to a newer version of Unity Engine. These newer versions support AMD FSR and DLSS and I think because of this games notorious performance issues this will help a lot?

Hey, can we expect improved Vulkan support in A21?
The only changes are us using never versions of Unity in which they sometimes fix issues. We recently updated to 2021.3.16, but may end up on .18 or .19 for A21.

Game is outdated and unsupported on new hardware before its even released at this rate.
So I agree😅

Problem with that is.......they'd have to re-write a poop-ton of code if doing this. As it is....they been working on this game for aprox. ten years. I seriously doubt they're willing to scrap it and start over on a new game engine. Although.....wouldn't be too far a stretch to think they might produce a 7d2d II on a newer game engine someday maybe. But, who knows.....they might just decide to move on to other ventures by then. I'm not saying it couldn't happen (converting to newer engine) it's just very unlikely. But, I do have another game that the dev had been working on forever and then decided to re-code it all to the newer Unity engine. Has been quite the undertaking for them but, they've got a lot of it done fairly quickly (past couple years.....ish...) so....who knows for sure.

This is not a problem and decent developers do this. This is quite a normal thing to do. That said, I also doubt the FunPimps will do it. They have more important things to do like reworking water bottles for example..

They updated to Unity version 2021.3.16 just last month. Removing bottles was done last June. They have updated to new versions of Unity all along as those versions became stable and once they thoroughly tested each new version on a separate branch created for that purpose.

I'm not a programmer or familiar with any 3d game engine but what I heard from mates who do the job, it's not that difficult to upgrade to new versions. Be it UE4 to UE5 or upgrade Unity to a newer version since it's apparently downward compatible for the most part and also highly recommended to game developers, since new versions offer easier programming, better workflow and more flexibility and tools.
But highly highly doubt that's ever goin to happen with this game.

Awesome.....that's good to know. I guess it's more of an undertaking on the other game I was thinking of because they were going from a completely different game engine to the new Unity engine.

TFP have modded aspects of Unity so that it best fits their needs just as people mod the game to better fit their needs. Just like an update to the game is likely to break mods and require the mod authors a period of time to get their mods compatible to the newest version of the game, the devs have to do the same when they choose to download a newer version of Unity. There is a balance between how good is the new version for performance and bug fixes for the engine vs how much effort will it be to get the game compatible with the newest version. So far, faatal has been on top of it.

Oh ok then I apologize.

There's nobody I would trust more than Faatal to know nerd stuff like this. I guarantee he reads the entire TOS lol.

The update of the engine doesn't mean that newer features of the engine are used as well though.
For example TFP uses an older render engine of Unity and while new projects would not use that older engine anymore TFP can not change that without doing a massive rewrite of their middleware. And AFAIK features like DLSS are only supported in the newer engine

It's unfortunate 7 days even uses the Unity Engine sadly

Unity is not the issue and neither DLSS nor FSR would fix it either. Basically it would make it worse even. ;-)

Game is CPU bound, not GPU bound for the most part. Even with a 4090 you will get stuttering, since the CPU can't keep up with some calculations that need doing.
Just check out all the YouTuber and Streamer, with theirr 13900KS or 7950X CPUs anhd 4090 GPUs. They don't get stutter free gameplay either, no matter the resolution and Framerate.

The only hope we have is that the developers finally implemented some internal performance metrics and can pinpoint the calls that put CPUs to their knees. Then hope some more that these calls actually CAN be improved, without removing functionality that we expect to be there.

Correct. I uhhh... no youtubes nor streams here but I do have a i9-13900K 24 core, a 4090, and 64gb DDR5 ram. Outputting at 3840x1600.

I work from home on my own hardware and wanted the latest and greatest for once in my life.

Anyway point is the game runs fantastic with that hardware but this guy is correct that it still goes crazy and stutters in cities and when different chunks load.
