Flooded Caves
I don't care if the caves are random holes on the map, or the former sloping tunnels, but has anyone else noticed that the mines/caves you find are invariably flooded? The 2 I have found (on about day 70) have been flooded. In fairness it is (with a lot of frame placing) possible to dig horizontally just above the water line, to open a new seam, but it IS awkward.
Anyone else wish we had Scuba gear?

Yes, same here Gad, I like the fact that caves are back (although I do wish they could find a balance between the bowl acid caves and the old tunnel caves we had, that would be epic imo) but some scubba gear would be nice, it's quite freaky having to bounce off the cave roofs hoping to gulp some trapped air. on a side note it does give me a small insight into what my uncle went through, he was an extreme potholer, or madman as I like to think, lol.

+1 for breathing gear (or sump pumps)

Wow, sound slike your uncle had a time of it. I'm not good in confined spaces. I also loved the old sloping caves best and loved that feeling of being under a confused night time horde, wondering where the hell the noise is coming from. I used to frame and door the cave entrance about 50 yards in (unlocked of course) to get a little privacy from Zeds. I even left a fair bit of gear down there in chests, so I could run back to base with my loot. Long before "Home" and "ZGate" stuff, when you had to actually sprint home at ten minutes to ten. Sigh. Golden days. lol

I also got a flooded cave near my base. First I thought damit, but then i gave it a try... and jumped into the cold dark water and startet mining. Just make sure you build yourself a little breathing hole into the wall.

The best in a flooded cave is, that you can't fall down and the drowning is just a little problem which is easy to handle as mentioned above.

Atm the water is on ground level in my cave and I've built a little path down there. All the water is in the new "caves" I made from mining.

But when you're mining underwater the water will fill these holes and the game gets laggy as hell...

+1 for old fashioned and new scuba gears

As a hermit caves are/were my fav dwelling place, I would build a rough crash pad in them, then tunnel striaght up using a spiral staircase and when I popped up on the surface build a fortified bunker without doors, just a roof access, that was my fav style of play next to wandering nomad.

Thumbs up for calling drowning "...a little problem...." Made me smile, thanks. And thanks also for the tips. Always appreciated.

I loved that feeling when you were in your mine and all the maniacal goings on of the surface were far behind.
I'm going to give your style a try, because the the caves I HAVE found (took ages too) I abandoned due to flooding. I suppose it can be worked to advantage. Thanks for your reply.
