i dug around for like 2 hours in the quest area and found it finally, it was worth it a good book i got from it. it was like 4 deep.

They are around 2 - 4 blocks deep. There is a perk thats helps find the loot alot easier.

Not far. Around 2 to 4 blocks as The Wolf said. I got slighty overexcited with my first one. Started marking the boundaries with wood frames and all, but finally found it in 3 minutes :steamfacepalm:

I've been pretty lucky so far, it's usually been located about 2-4 blocks down (as others have said)

I have been lucky enough, that When I clear away all the grass in the area, I usually find a dip in the ground (looks like somebody almost dug out a block of dirt) and it's usually within a block or two of that point.
The longest time it's taken me is about 15 minutes to clear away all the grass, to find the terrain that looks "off".

Clear the grass and look for a dip in the ground. If this works you've actually cracked the burried chest enigma. I will test this and get back asap ;)

2-4 blocks down. 90% of the time, it's been dead center for me. One time, it was about 4 blocks in, BUT I started from the outside and dug inward. I have a feeling that the game just gives you a random chance to find it each time you hit a block.
very first chest i found was literally the first spot i picked only 2 tiles deep, other 2 times after that i have been making the area look like swiss cheese so its hard to say...

Def going to try the cut the grass and look for a dip trick

I would not recommend doing treasure quest until you get level 2 T-Rex combined with Level 2 Miner 69r.

Because you can dig all day with those two combinations and will find the treasure pretty quickly.

Best advice I have heard is quickly find the edges of treasure area and place frames so you can eyeball where center is. Start digging at center go down about 3-5 blocks then dig in a circle until you find the treasure.

Treasure is equal to a weak air drop crate.

Mostly worth it

Hmm, I've had 3/3 with this perk and have not seen anything marked on my map or compass... How does this show up on the compass/map? How do I know when I'm near treasure?

The white treasure icon on your compass flashes red when you are close. Spending skill points on treasure hunter lowers the size of the 'close'. Thus you have a smaller area to search means easier to find the treasure.

The only treasure chest I found was floating slightly above the ground, LOL

I seen variants , ones underwater have big chance to spawn above ground

But from practical experience there are lots things who annoy me about treasure maps

-Treasure maps are rare , found only 2 in 11 days while looting a lot (sounds fair)
But it dont sounds fair that even with spending 30! skillpoints who is equivalent of getting 3 powerfull skills , we get range reduction to 7 , sounds resonable? , range of 7 is big , its actualy twice as big becouse "center" is in middle and actual range of the treasure as area is 14x14 , thats about 194 blocks to mine but most likely you will mine 1 extra THATS 225 blocks range and doing that spawned 2 hordes i had to deal with , i found it after digging 490 blocks of fertile dirt

and not alweys it spawns 1 block deep , usualy its 2-4 even herd it goes deeper

i had it on lv3 max out skill for treasure and it still took me 25 real life minutes , with steel shovel who 1 hit the dirt and stamina skills who makes my stamina not deplete at all , what did i get? sniper rifle part of good quality , medkit recepie i already knew , and crapy something i dont even remember now

CONSIDERING HOW RARE TREASURE is and how expensive skill is why not down range to 4? or make treasure apear below "what letter says" like "i hid it under boulder" , or "at the tree" or "below cinder block" , maps are already rare enough , and from 10 times i loot them in creative mode to test it , they got merly a bit "better" but only a bit better loot then airdrops and they take about 30x the effort and time to find

i cant even imagine how long would to dig 15 range without skill one

Early game the time is not worth to search for treasures. It's for late game. When you need the books for better your armour, because with crafting armour you waste a lot of recources and time. Or when you are getting 400+ parts. And when you have a shovel which can take the dirt with on hit. It's takes around 5 real minutes to find it + traveling time. Your decision... In this time you can also do a lot other things.

IMO it's very worth it early in the game too, since you need many recipe books asap so I suggest to always go for them no matter what.

I found that if you zero in on the marker, and dig 2wide 4down you might see a corner of the treasure chest. Either open it or dig around to reveal it. I did find it easier to find treasue in the Desert biome, and more difficult in the hills.
