Question about zombies and walls
i just want to ask if its normal that the 7th days horde can just jump over a 4 tall wall that i took 7 days to build? and yes there is spike under it, thats why i made it 4 high, because the fist time i made it 3 high (1 row to put spike next to it, the 2 row because needed for the 3rd and 3rd so they cant just hop over a 1 block high wall from spike) they just jump on each other and all pass the wall in less than 20 sec.... same for the 4 high wall 7 days of wall making and spike making to be skip in 20 sec, hard to def 1 vs a horde whit a wall that cant block 1 zombie

overhang the wall it helps. during my 21day horde i saw 3 zombies on top of each other it was very immersion breaking.

Your wall is obviously not big enough. I would suggest that you seek the help of Donald Trump, he has been studying walls and wants to protect his home country with them.

i can understand the zombies need something vs wall, but they should not climb on "ALIVE" zombies, they should bunch up in "horde" and hit the wall, after there is a couple dead zombie now they should start getting over the walls from climbing on the deader

Just FYI, Spider zombies can climb walls, that's their main function. You always had/have to defend against them climbing up, even if zombies didn't like to tiptoe onto shoulders.

Anyway, walls should, imo, always be at least 5 high, 6 is better, with a 1-block or 2 block wide overhang/edging put on the top wall block. Most people use iron bars (can shoot through them) but you can use any block for the general purpose. The newer scrap iron grate can be placed level with the top of the highest wall block and also can be shot through and doesn't need the forge, so a good early option.

But anything works as an overhang just to prevent spiders.

These days my tactic tends to be huge fields of spikes and cheese-luring the AI so they all die before they even think about climbing walls. One day the Pimps may defeat that too, but they haven't yet. :steammocking:

the probleme i have is getting everything set up before night 7, the last base i had, got just the time to build 4 High and put a second spike layer (not on every side not enought time nor ressource) i spended 3 days of chopping trees the rest building, hunting for the forge and scavaging for some gear. On the 7th night i JUST made a crossbow (10 bolt) got a pistol(82 ammo) and iron arrows (200), got kill in the 1st hour of the night from 20-30 zombie skipping the wall.
and yes i know about spider zombies, they had a role a couple of update ago, now they can all do it.

I just meant that even if it was still only spiders, you'd still want to use an overhang.

As to the timing ... what day length time are you using? On 60min days I have a 5x5 base up by day 4 or 5 (flagstone, cobblestone, or scrap iron, depends) with spikes. 30min days I have to basically start building right away (long before Day3) and don't worry about the forge (if you're lucky with animal spawns/hunting right away, go for it, I just mean I don't make a big time-effort to get it). You can always move later.

Hanar, you might find this playlist interesting. I made it at the request of someone else who was also struggling to survive the first week. All default settings on random gen world. If I recall correctly I had a full Reinforced Concrete fort with an Iron Bar overhang by about 10 AM on Day 5.

1. Spider zombies can climb any wall unless there is an overhang blocking their ascent.
2. Spider zombies can jump.
3. Zombies can climb the corpses of other zombies. Corpse on top of spike? That's a 2-block-tall step a z can climb onto.
4. Game is still glitchy. Sorry, but it's alpha :/

I haven't mucked about with hordes yet in 14.6, that said I have read a few posts about zombies being able to hop over one another now (think World War Z). The old gore block system was meant to represent that effect but it was not well optimized and didn't work as well as intended either. So this build is meant to have something that is an upgrade to the gore block idea.

Again I have not been able to test this out as of yet myself, so this entire post is based on hear-say unless someone/s can confirm it. Could explain your issue though if this is the case.

Build a dome on a reinforced concrete base.

@OP

Zombies when grouped, can climb on each other and jump over walls that way...I have personally seen them go over 4 high...more zombies = higher they can go essentially.

So instead of making crazy high walls, just do a 1-2 block overhang.

Got a 7 block high wall of reinforced cement, some of it is steel, getting ready for day 45 soon. Me and my friend play on 2 hour settings and decided to try to build bases next to each other sort of instead of building together. But I'd say 4-5 high with overhang. Got me and my friend thru hordes, I just like the look of a big wall

4 high isn't high enough anymore. You put a spike outside. Now it's only 3 high for a zed standing on the spike. Oh he died and turned into a gore block on top of your spike, Here comes zombie # 2 and he's now standing on top of the gore block and your wall is only 2 high for him.. Same height as a zombie (so his head is even with the top of your wall)... and here comes Zed #3 who's going to climb onto the shoulders of Zed #2 and walk right onto the top of your wall and inside your base because nothing is blocking his patch.

6 high with and Iron Bar lip and you'll be good to go. Can't get an iron bar lip in place before day 7... np just use wood frams(don't upgrade) and replace with iron bars once you have them.
