Especially if you find ore veins
Also, if while digging down you hit a vein, don't hesitate to follow it through the rock and come back to your diagonal-to-bedrock tunnel later.
Good points.
The Water Plant/Treatment Plant and a set of Wrenches will take you very far.
Clay patches often have boulders and extra plants.
That will yield enough more iron than is easily processed by a single forge,
If you are staying in one place early on, you will probably run out of boulders, and things to scavange.
When you have forged iron, the pickaxe is a better tool but it's associated with mining tools not construction. Mining iron ore is faster but you have to find a cave or dig.
Metal objects take too much time to smash up. If you have wrenches or can make them, that might be an option but it still requires you to find locations.
Don't they only give like 2 iron per? I remember a good while ago that they were great for iron but since everything have been converted to just iron now they don't really give that much.
Yeah, sort of backs up my opinion that they're crap. I mean if if you're at the point where you have a steel pick you should be digging a mine. Only 3 per resource means you need to find 33+ of those girders just to make a stack of 100 iron. That's honestly pitiful and a far cry from what they used to provide before the simplification of the materials.
