How do you pass time at night?
It's been a while since I've played. Is there any way to skip time at night or sleep?

I usually just gather up like 200 of each of the required materials to make stone axes and train my tool making skill.
100 of em will usually get you close to 100-150 quality range.
In fact, you can do that with tailoring too, if you feel so inclined.
Or gun smithing, via gunpowder.
Dump em out of your hotbar with 'q', while you're inventory is full of one stacks of something like wood.
Or dig a hole. Find an iron/coal/nitre/lead vein and mine to your heart's content.

Build crappy walls to block eyesight around your area and work on your base.
Wood frames err'where. Three height in a flat area, four in a hill-y one.

But to answer your last question, no. You have to go through the night.
It's not as thre.atening as you'd expect early on. It's just the dogs that will ruin you at night.

If you're in single-player you can exit game, set the day length shorter, enter game until morning, exit game, set day length longer, reenter game...

...yes, it's a pain, but if you really can't find or just don't want to do ANY tasks to pass the nights, but still really want those longer day hours, it's the only option.

...myself, I seem to always have stuff to do at night. Usually it's dawn before I know it and I'm all "wait wait, I'm not done with ( whatever ) yet..."

On Single player (or Multi if its your Server) you can pop out of game and reset the Day length (24 Hr period) to 10 min, go back in until it gets to 3:50 (18 Hr Day) or 5:50 (16 Hr Day) pop out again and reset to what ever your 24 Hr Day Length was.

Id only do that very early in game and if I didnt have any of those options Crazy listed above

EDIT - Dammit CatPerson's too fast :/

If you have cheat mode enabled in the game options;
hit the console key, "~"

type in the command "settime with the following format;
"settime XX XX XX" Day, Hour(24 cycle) Minutes

So to change the time to day 8, at 7:45 am, it would look like this

settime 08 07 45

Cheat... pfft seriously kids these days.

Dig a mineshaft straight down under your base until you hit ores. Spend your nights mining as well just excavate away from your wall foundations.

I spend my time either working on my tailoring, or other crafting skill, or I go out an preposition myself for my next loot run. If I run into zombies I just keep the beer or grain alcohol flowing and work on my cardio till morning then I derail the zombie train and harvest their bones. Muuhahahahaaaa...

This.
And craft wooden clubs by the score too..

By the time the night 7 horde showed up I was almost at purple for bows and tools..

And if you have points to open up steel smithing mining is a breeze especially adding in miner69er perk.So much rock collected during the night dug a hole under the prefab and mined down there...and smelted in the forgealso unlocked the cement/concrete perk

I scavanged wrenches in a town im in and wrenched cars for engines and ovens for scrap cable building the cement mixer... had high end blue tools and concrete wall for the first horde night.

If you set the difficulty right for your own skill, then night time becomes just as important as daytime. If the difficulty is set correctly m there should not be much downtime for you.

I stockpile resources to train and spam craft things to raise many of my skills. I actually gotten very efficient with it I can get to 400+ quality with my weapons and tools and reach skill level 40 in many of my skills in a couple of days... I tried showing my mates the techique I use but they found it boring... so boring they rather run about with poor gear and complain how hard the game is...
