Thanks, I know how to make a forge. I have been playing since A11 or so. My confusion stems from the "you must have fuel in the fire" when you go to select recipies. I think it also needs to be active. This kind of goes against how all their other devices work. Unless the forge is that way now? Burning things and then deciding what to cook is a bit wasteful and the older way with A12 was a little more optimal. I do agree that reducing teh amount of items in the long run is a better approach though. I think the current system just needs a little tweaking.
You need a campfire for cooking. Beyond that, it's mostly finding a cooking pot and a beaker (which occasionally drop randomly beyond the spots I mentioned). You almost never find cooking grills, and you need a forge to create a cooking grill.
"You almost never find cooking grills, and you need a forge to create a cooking grill."
No lie one time I had two grills drop on a loot pickup. It was like rolling natural 20's twice in a D&D game rarity but it happened once to me.
Got 2 grills and 6 pots this morning. Managed to meet up with my buddy for night one and found out he had also gotten 6 pots and 4 grills. All before either of us found a house. Burning forests and wastelands are great places to find these things it seems. Either way we found a base and settled in for the night.
Thanks I know. My issue was more related around how the context menus work. like it won't pickup that you have all the ingredients for something if the campfire is not burning/stoked with fuel. The confusion comes from 2 ways to access the recipies menu for food. one from the item and one from the campfire and then item. Context is key if it's not all that clear.
I've found one or two cooking grills but yes they are rather rare. It'd be nice if you found them from smashing up cards as any bit of flat heat resistant meterial will do such as stone or metal.
You can also cancel cooking either through the context 'X' as you mouse over the lower left que, or turning off the fire. (If you had not discovered that already. It is a bit of a change. It still catches me off guard, when I forget to add fuel and think I can't forge / cook anything : )
But yeah...I dunno why they made bacon/eggs use a pot instead of a grill. I mean, I think you'd want a frying pan (fried eggs on most grills would fall through), but since there is no frying pan...guess they went with the pot instead, now. Boiled bacon? :D
